Vista + Firewire + Vid Camera = PAIN IN THE ARSE

Hey guys.

I recently got a new video camera, a Mini DV Sony TVR 950e.

As the name suggests, it records in Mini DV, it also records to memory stick but i'll get to that later.

To record and capture my DV to the computer (a windows vista based PC) you must use firewire. I've read up on this extensively, and firewire and vista do not go together ¬_¬ nice one microsoft.

The memory stick recording works, as it uses USB, but it's a pathetic 8mb, and records video in 320x280, therefore, useless.

Is there a way to get around the use of firewire, as it doesn't even detect that anything is plugged in.

Also, finally, the software i installed (Imagemix for sony) crashes when i choose the capturing environment, meaning i can't capture + record to PC anyway...
