Awww they're gonna keep the third person?
That stinks.
Otherwise though I've been looking forward to this game a while coming.
Might have to juggle between buying this or GTA V.
Just call it The Bureau, damn it

I guess I'm the only one not bothered by the title.
To me the game itself might just be enough over the title.
I mean it's just a title guys. What matters is what it means. Maybe this is a prequel how the Bureau became XCOM.
Sorta like how the CIA was once called the O.S.S back in WWII.
I thought peoples biggest gripes were the name and not that it was an FPS with a 60s theme and aliens.

Anyone who talks about is just gonna call it The Bureau, the subtitle is just so you know it's related to xcom.
Third person? That's rather disappointing. Could still be good, though.
I have a feeling that this game is going to have two communities.
One that think's it an ok game that's fun.
and one that hates it for the reason people apparently hate this game for.
maybe.
I hate cover-based third-person shooters.
Cover should be natural things you use as a player, not as designated areas that you're supposed to jump between.
This might be cool. Not getting hyped or anything though.
Wait so this was kept secret the entire time? I may have had a dream then a couple months back or I was just so damn tired I just randomly came up with images of the XCOM fps in 3rd person :v:
In any case this is might be quite fun! I prefer third person shooters over first person because I like seeing my character actually move around and do stuff. Also in third person the main character usually has a voice unlike first person (from most of the games I've played at least).
Shame that it's not sticking to the classic form of X-com, I might still get it though. I hope it's not aimed too much at 'fps gamers' now though :c.

How can it be aimed at people who play first person shooters when it is third person?

There's no need for another turn-based XCOM right now, XCOM EU pretty much nailed it and no one's going to get close to it for a while.
Maybe they'll get something nice with this? They realized why a lot of people bitched about the game and so they changed it from being a XCOM game to being a game just related to XCOM.
Still looks and sounds like it's going to be mediocre.
It's by the Bioshock 2 devs too, that's not promising whatsoever.

Bioshock 2 wasn't bad.
It wasn't a necessary sequel, but as a game it was solid.
This isn't at the top of my list for August releases, but this does look pretty promising. I think I might try it out.
Plus, as some of the PC Gamer posters have pointed out, we already have an established XCOM reboot series from Firaxis. So, even if this blows, we'll still have the Firaxis series to enjoy.

It's gameplay was a solid improvement over Bioshock 1, it's story is where I had my gripes so we should be ok here.

The story itself wasn't bad, it just wasn't a great Bioshock story.
The game's flaws came from the fact that they were trying to continue a series that didn't lend itself to being continued.
We don't have to worry about that with this.
