That's insane. Surely the mill control systems should be on a private network with no possible internet access? Just asking for trouble.

Just asking for trouble.[/QUOTE] A friend and I were wondering the exact same thing when he showed me this article...why are so many control systems for, well, anything always on networks that can be accessed externally? Even if it needs a VPN or something to access it from outside, that is still nowhere near secure considering the damage these damn things can do.

There are entirely too many industrial systems pointed at the web with little to no security. The guy giving the talk has found everything from hydroelectric dams, to cows connected to the internet.

I interviewed a guy who's working in a company with an MOD contract and he mentioned they have several different computer networks. The high security one doesn't even physically connect to the outside world and any changes have to go through the MOD for approval. If someone hacked into those, I'm sure we'd end up with some very unhappy chickens or a large amount of feed going missing...
