I can't seem to find a good one, I'm not bothered with much except I don't want it to be a massive memory hog or take my inbox hostage.
Thunderbird.
Thunderbird.
Yes. Thunderbird. The best one I've ever used. Thunderbird.
I said NOT a memory hog. [editline]12:39AM[/editline] Also I'd like one that can run in the background and notify me if I have a message.
I said NOT a memory hog.
Not a memory hog. And next time I get a message, I'll show you what it looks like. Should be here in a few minutes. Edit: I edited out my name, obviously. But where the red splotch is, is where you'd see the name of the sender.
Ok, I'll use TB. Finally, can I get it to run in the background on startup?
Ok, I'll use TB. Finally, can I get it to run in the background on startup?
Well, you can get it to run on start up, but running in the background, I don't think so.
Personally, I hated Thunderbird, though I've had no issues with Windows Live Mail. It looks nice and gets the job done.
+1 for Thunderbird
Why don't you just get Outlook?
Why don't you just get Outlook?
Yeah, what's wrong with Outlook 2007?
If you don't mind paying, Postbox was pretty good when I tried it during the beta.
Windows Live Mail is very nice, I like it
Gmail
I like outlook 2010.
Windows Live Mail works great for me
Inbox2
I use Win Live Mail. It's really lightweight.
Outlook 2010
I've never had a problem with Thunderbird. I'd say avoid the later versions of outlook if you choose that though. They've added too much to it. It's a right pain to use now.
If you don't mind paying, Postbox was pretty good when I tried it during the beta.
I'll give another vote for postbox, even though I use Thunderbird currently. I used Postbox till it left beta and they started charging. It was an amazing email client. If I did more with email I'd definitely pay for it, it is totally worth the price tag. Thunderbird actually doesn't seem that lightweight to me. It is constantly using upwards of 100mb of RAM on my windows computer and around 160 on my Mac. As opposed to mail.app using around 50 and outlook using around 30(though that is outlook 2003). I'd be using Mail or Outlook if they had better IMAP support. If you aren't wanting to pay I'd say use Outlook 2010(I haven't used it much but I've heard great things about it, plus the integration with office is nice if you use it a lot) or use Thunderbird 3. You really can't go wrong with Thunderbird and it is cross platform, so you have the same environment no matter what OS you are on.
Outlook
ThunderBird+1
Windows Live Mail :v:
I actually like Windows Mail a fair bit..
Does thunderbird work well with @hotmail.com accounts? I need to check my mail more periodically, maybe a client is the answer.
Does thunderbird work well with @hotmail.com accounts? I need to check my mail more periodically, maybe a client is the answer.
I cant give a for sure answer, but Id say doubtful, the only client that will is Windows Live Mail Client that Im aware of.
+1 for Win Live Mail
I use Win Live Mail. It's really lightweight.
That leaked beta someone posted a while back - is that out of beta yet? It was really nice looking.
+1 for Win Live Mail
Does windows live mail support imap? edit: just wondering, pretty sure it has nothing to do with the op.
