Is it worth it yay or nay? I hear Stellaris is by far better but this looks closer to Civ, which I prefer to Paradox's grand strategy (though I haven't really tried a Paradox game past an EU IV demo that I was utterly lost in).

It's pretty fun, if you like civ then you be right at home here.
I did find some things to be a bit unbalanced at times but it was nothing gamebreaking.
It's definitely worth it at 66% off in my opinion.

I'd say buy Stellaris over this. This game is fun, I pre-ordered the game back when it was first coming out and I enjoyed it but quickly grew bored. The game is pretty poorly optimized if you try to play the game on the larger maps. Largest map at endgame is going to run slow even on the best hardware.
This game is a lot more like Civilization while Stellaris is a lot more like Europa Universalis. Take your pick.
Stellaris is definitely better, I think. Just look at all of Paradox's good games. They were pretty meh at launch and got really good with patches and expansions, and the only difference with Stellaris is that it isn't very meh at launch, it's quite good
Some issues but it's still an enjoyable game. I've put probably close to 70 hours into it so far
Then again, GalCivIII at 66% off is a pretty good deal
You can't go wrong either way

I think a lot of people might be turned off by the real time aspect of Stellaris. GC3 offers a more turn based classical approach.

That's the really trade off I have here. I prefer turn based, though I'd be willing to try real time.

Well, you can still pause the game and play it at your own pace. Which takes some time getting used to but in the end it feels really familiar.

Well Stellaris is pausable, so have a go
I found this game just too complex to get into
For my first campaign I made my own post-human civilisation, I spread to something silly like 26 planets and I was constantly pissed off that no matter what I did I couldn't make a good economy. It got to the point where every few turns my economy would go into the negative and I would have no idea why, while civilisations with half as many planets as me could have fleets several times the size of mine.
And then after I invested literally hours into that campaign, they released a patch that made it so you couldn't focus a planet on just research, production or money making. That screwed everything over. It meant that my economy was well and truly impossible to fix, that I couldn't build ships at a decent time on my high production planets, etc. Gave up then and there.
