Never gonna happen, because I still want to be able to do things while I watch a movie. Wearing VR googles takes the freedom out of watching TV casually

glitch in the matrix
I don't watch TV, haven't for years. Much more comfortable at my PC.
Oh hell no. I'm not restricting my television viewing to a pair of VR goggles that'll cause massive eye strain. My big CRT is good enough for me.
That would be fine if you lived alone, but sitting with your family all wearing VR goggles isn't going to happen.
Yeah this really won't kill off TV, VR exclusive shows and movies are going to be relegated to just fringe stuff that people make as a giggle.
Why in the world would you buy a 60-inch TV that, even if it were dirt cheap for that, it’s still going to cost a lot to ship it and make it from raw materials.
It's really the same reason I avoid wearing a headset when I can.
It's nice not to wear hardware, it makes me feel less "shut in."
VR killed the video star.
Hmm, no I think TV will kill itself actually.
Just like how TV killed radio.
I definitely think it's possible for VR to kill TV, but it won't be a VR headset. The VR headset can only serve one person content at a time. Something that kills off TV would need to provide potentially everyone in a room the same perk that a TV does. Everyone can watch it at the same time.
I don't think it'll be VR as such, internet, youtube and netflix will help and the TV will sign itself off with the X Factor and just reality TV in general.
Nah, OR still has to be attached to something.
Maybe if the way future, but I can TV being already obsolete by that time.
I don't want to look like a retard by having to wear glasses to watch 3D TV, this isn't any different. Just imagine a family sitting down on the sofa together, seemingly staring at a blank wall with these bulky things strapped to their faces. It'll look like an indoctrination scene out of a scifi movie.
Besides, I'd rather buy a single HD TV over numerous headsets.
It's just a pair of goggles that make it so you can only see the media you display
It's more a cheap gimmick that'll die out eventually, not real VR. It'll be no more popular than 3D TVs were.
what a goofy vision, but I guess he's somewhat right that as an industry producing and shipping VR sets would be way more efficient and probably profitable per unit than giant TVs
but all speculation aside looking at that picture of the dk2 makes me want to de-shell my unit for the cyberpunky style

damn son
Why would I replace my TV with a VR headset? How am I going to sit down and socialize with my friends? VR won't make it anywhere far except for gaming. I may watch that VR movie coming out about animals, though.
And if VR gets "commoditised", it'll cost just as much as a TV because that's how businesses make money.
Still waiting for computers to have actual television support
TV is like Radio. It will never ever disappear.
Tv sucks anyway, so good riddence
If you want to simulate sitting in a room watching a TV, you’ll be able to do that.
OR you could..idunno...actually sit in a room and watch TV.
VR may be great for video games but it's not the end-all be-all media solution. And not even all gamers care all that much about VR.
This is incredibly dumb. Nobody is going to completely replace their monitor or TV screen with a pair of VR goggles.
It's like saying headphones will kill loudspeakers.
TV will die, but not because of gaming or VR. But because of commercials and schedules. Small price for no advertisements and being able to watch on your time is WAY better and cheaper than TV through cable provider
Its hard to predict massive innovation and breakthroughs. Its likely TV will be replaced by something that hasn't even been developed or conceived of but it won't be VR.

speaking of which, hulu needs to die. H+ subscription doesn't drop the time consuming and obnoxiously repetitive commercial breaks. Never before have I hated geico as much as when watching hulu
