After Year of the dragon. I was convinced Spyro was going to be a juggernaut in gaming. I was waiting with eager anticipation for the next game.

I barely remember Enter The Dragonfly, what made it so bad other than the loads of loading?
Ratchet and Clank is one of the best game series of all time, and spyro helped raise the bar for platforming outside of Nintendo. Insomniac do some cool shit

Before it was called FUSE it was called Overstrike and it looked like Insomniac made it as cartoon-ish as Ratchet and Clank (not in a bad way)
I'm unsure what exactly changed Overstrike to FUSE but it doesn't look like something Insomniac wouldhave changed on their own.
Probably EA thought it needed to "appeal to the masses" with modern day shooters rather than look cartoon-ish (least thats what I like to think happened)
imo, Overstrike probably wouldhave sold more than what FUSE came out as.

This is something that Microsoft seems to understand (with sunset overdrive), much like Sony did. You leave Insomniac to create their own thing and they can make amazing games.

I still remember their first trailer for it, and it looked like a more adult "The Incredibles". I couldn't believe it when they made the change.
