Lets make a new unreal tournament!
ut99 was amazing, ut2004 was great, ut3 was gears of warized shitty and they downgraded everything except vehicles and graphics
they'll NEED the original creators or it'll be shit on
It's definitely pretty, and looks amazing as a cutscene. But during gameplay, I feel that just because you can fill the screen with hundreds of effects doesn't necessarily mean you should. It can get distracting.

BF3 is an example but I've said that many times before
effects are cool but gameplay is above all the biggest importance.
twitch shooters and visual complexity don't mix cause all they do is distract
bf3 isn't exactly a twitch shooter at heart so w/e
Would love to see a new game come along that takes its of inspiration from the classic ones ('99 and 2004) though. We need some new, good arena FPS's.
I was talking like a game similar to 2003 or 2004.
I don't know about that.
You could argue that it's the fault of the developer just as much as it could be the player.
Usually the average person could learn and discern what elements are important and what isn't just by playing the game for a few hours.
Then again with the amount of people that play video games today you have to deal with all types of people.
With some good art direction you can make the important elements stand out from the background without sacrificing anything.
usually the twitch shooter player would turn the graphical setting down to minimum and play at 800x600 to have an edge over others :v:
This looks amazing. If only some developer could make an actually good Aliens game, it'd be excellent. I mean, you could completely nail the atmosphere, with the lighting effects and all those particles.
How would that even help? I've never heard of someone doing that.
Though we haven't been using any examples here.
sometimes lower graphical settings for meshes turn off foliage and misc debris and that helps identify people
lower texture settings - less noise, more silhouette = easier identification
lower resolution - idk but according to my friend it helps aiming
but that's only tangential to the point, which is that visually overloading a player doesn't bode well for twitch shooters - i.e. it's much easier to navigate and bunnyhop and also look out for enemies around this:

you know I've never been able to figure out how the fuck they do that
I want to play with it already!
I want to play with it already!
its been going out to quite a few indie dev teams recently

Let's start a team, a game with dogs or something.
call of duty except everyone is dog
Because with old school shooters, if you saw anything that moved it was an enemy. Now every little thing is animated.

Even games like Battlefield 2 has great advantages in doing that. It helps differentiate players from the horizon and gives an edge to low-graphics players.
EDIT: Isn't having a more 'alive' world better? Sure competitive players do better with less variables, but fuck them. I mean soldiers would be more effective if they fought in a sterile clean world, but the messiness and chaos only serves to up the bar of competitive play.
i can't stop thinking of daniel jackson from stargate when i see this zak parrish guy :v:
I like how it looked better when they turned all of the effects off.
call of duty except everyone is dog
you do realize that's what they're planning for Call Of Duty: Ghosts 2 right?
I always turn off things like effects, lighting, bloom, motion blur in games I'm going to play multiplayer...I'd rather have a solid 60fps as well as actually being able to see what I'm doing tia
Lol 60fps is trash 150+ fps is the way to go
PRO standard Live by it
call of duty except everyone is dog
Dog of War. There's a name for yas.
Also they should have gunpods on their back like the Guard Dog from Team Fortress 2. Choose which guns to put on the gunpod, and what treats you give them before battle.
hopefully UE4 isn't plagued with mouse issues like UE3 was
Never liked Unreal Engine..

You talking about weird mouse acceleration, or something to do with DPI?

Mouse acceleration, sensitivity, and lag issues. Bioshock, Mirror's Edge, Borderlands, etc. all had those issues when I played them.

Interesting... D'you think that's one of the things that affected the gunplay in BInfinite, other than the two-weapon system?
