I dont see what the big deal is, the value is going to be exactly the same and its not like your going to be able to get back what you already have in your balance. $1=80 points wasnt exactly difficult.
Not saying that its not easier, just that this seems to be causing a bigger fuss than necessary
Didn't the points only come in specific amounts? So sometimes you'd have to buy more than you need and have a bit left over. Which makes you inclined to buy more so the leftovers don't got to waste.

Yes, and it will pobably remain that way anyway. Games being sold for $2.50 and only being able to add a minimum of $5 to your account
Yay! I get to keep my 48p, going to spend it big time.

And here I thought I could conveniently grab that Bioshock 2 DLC I've heard such good things about.
Bollocks.
AFAIK it's almost exactly like Steam Wallet and does let you pay the exact price

Once it's converted to local currency you can put it towards a purchase and pay the rest with a credit card
I hated Microsoft points, and quite honestly I thought the system of point packages is dumb. Trying to force the consumer onto that is frustrating when points are sold at X, but the thing you want to buy doesn't share a common factor.
I never once had a problem with points.
Nearly everything that was on the marketplace was either $5, $10, $15, or $20 which directly corresponded to the available Microsoft Points packages of 400, 800, 800+400, and 1600 so I never really had much of a problem with it, but I still like that they're getting rid of it. Also, you don't have to add funds to your wallet in order to buy things, you can buy directly now regardless of price. So, that $1 indie game or add-on or whatever, you can pick it up no problem now.
Why was this a thing in the first place?
It's fucking dumb.

I haven't either, but I definitely understand why it could be an inconvenience to many. It is pretty much a direct downgrade to just paying the dollar amount. Unless there is a pro I didn't realize existed.

I think maybe parents complained since both them, and the child, didn't know how much money they were really using.
