• Should I upgrade my PC?

Whats up. So basically I've been using an old Dell XPS 420 for a few years now, its not bad I can play most games on high enough settings, but with Skyrim and BF3 etc coming out in the next few months I really wanted a good computer to run it. Here's a picture of the computer: and
Intel core 2 quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz (4 CPUs) ~ 2.4Ghz 3072mb RAM Geforce 8800GT
If somebody could tell me that handy program for showing your specs I will use that to get more in depth specs. Anyway, I was wondering would I be able to upgrade this to be a good gaming machine for future games or would I be better off just selling it and buying parts to make my own? I don't have too much money at the moment but I will be working soon so I can save up. But basically I really want to upgrade to 64bit, because the new After Effects and Premiere Pro aren't support on 32bit, so that would be another thing I want. But yeah just let me know what I should be doing here, because I have no idea on building computers or anything, I wouldn't mind learning because I heard its not too hard, but in terms of picking parts etc I have no clue. Cheers
Download Speccy, and screen cap it.
Cheers mate give me 1 second
What's yor budget? Your CPU is still pretty decent, though I guess that your BIOS doesn't support overclocking, but still, it's alright. With a new PSU, you could get a pretty decent card. I don't know how RAM-hungry BF3 will be, but 3GB is starting to get on the small side. My advice for you is pretty much to do a tempoary upgrade, and then start saving up for a new setup, this system will be running good for some time to come. You should consider waiting as well, as southern island (AMD HD Radeon 7*** series) will be released not too long from now. Either way, clean out 8800 even if you aren't gonna be using it much more, it's running pretty damn hot if it's only idling (so is your CPU, really), and the 8800 is pretty notoriuos for that as well. You should post a picture of your PSU if you don't know the model, as it's really required for running higher end cards.
Thanks for the post man. I will try get a picture of the PSU, so your mainly recommending that I upgrade the RAM and graphics card? I was searching about and found these, would they be good? RAM: http://www.dabs.ie/products/corsair-vengeance-8gb--2x4gb--ddr3-1600mhz-cl9-xmp-79V4.html Graphics Card: http://www.dabs.ie/products/gigabyte-geforce-gtx-460-715mhz-1gb-pci-e-hdmi-overclocked-73H1.html What do you think of those? I would probably need to upgrade the PSU and cooling unit too wouldn't I? Oh any my budget would probably be around 850-900 euro.
Anybody?
I'd recommend this GPU, seeing as it's slightly faster and slightly cheaper than the 460. http://www.dabs.ie/products/sapphire-technology-ati-radeon-6850-hd-775mhz-1gb-pci-express-hdmi-7783.html?q=6850 Also, you can't buy that RAM, seeing as your mobo only supports DDR2.
Great thanks. So what RAM would you suggest so I could upgrade to 64 bit?
