• Bluescreens after booting Windows 7
    11 replies, posted
When I turn on my computer it sometimes greets me with a bluescreen or really unstable programs. When I don't get a bluescreen, the computer works perfectly. This started happening after I upgraded my CPU, Motherboard and RAM. I went from Intel E8400, MSI P35 Neo, Corsair XMS2 2x2GB to Intel i5 2500K, Gigabyte PH67-UD3, Corsair XMS3 2x2GB 1333MHz, I reinstalled Windows 7 after upgrading. I can play games perfectly, the only problem is the bluescreens at boot. Full Specs: Motherboard: Gigabyte PH67-UD3 CPU: Intel Core i5 2500K RAM: Corsair XMS3 4GB 1333MHz GPU: Gigabyte GTX460 1GB PSU: XFX 650W (I tried a Corsair 550W too, so the PSU isn't the problem) SSD: OCZ Vertex2 120GB HDD: Western Digital Caviar 1TB Sound Card: Creative XtremeAudio I tried searching for similar problems on Google but I only found ones caused by overclocking, I have my CPU at stock speed. I don't think it's a Windows 7 problem either as before I got a SATA DVD Reader I ran Ubuntu, and sometimes when I started Ubuntu all programs crashed almost instantly after they were launched. Here are some bluescreens I've got, most of them are after I type in my password on Windows boot (viewed with BlueScreenView). seems HDD, try this HDD on other computer or use HD tune Also could be overheating
The HDDs didn't have this problem before I upgraded to Sandy Bridge, and they perform as good as they did before I upgraded. And I don't think it's overheating as I can run Prime95 without getting heat warnings.
Sometimes I get the "bluescreen boot" but the bluescreen doesn't appear and instead it's really unstable. Usually 3-4 programs crash at the same time. I was able to take a printscreen after most of my programs had crashed, so there's only 2 programs crashing here: [editline]16th February 2011[/editline] About 5 seconds after I sent this reply, Firefox crashed.
It will most probably be faulty hardware. You could just identify it by putting each of the new HW inside the old rig solely. Then just return it.
I can't do that as I used DDR2 and Socket 775 on my old motherboard and DDR3 and Socket 1155 on this one.
Found that this problem is called "unstable after cold boot" so I searched around for this and most people with this problem fixed it by replacing the RAM, how can I be sure that the RAM is faulty, I don't want to buy new RAM unnecessarily.
Google Memtest.

The unstability happened when I ran Ubuntu too.
I meant to post this yesterday but I also suspect it's a RAM issue for the following reasons. 0x50 / PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA This usually has to do with memory and/or driver issues. Since it happens in both Linux and Windows it's not a driver problem. Program crashing Program being loaded into memory improperly will have these side effects. From crashing to hanging. What you should do if you haven't is only use one memory module at a time and see if the problem persists. If it does, take it out and put another in. If you've cycled through all of them and it still happens then the motherboard might be to blame. [editline]18th February 2011[/editline] You can also check the Event Viewer and see if there's any more details as to what's going on.
Your RAM appears to be the culprit.
