There might be some drivers or something you can use, but honestly the official cable isn't all that expensive.

they make it really hard if not impossible to use anything other than their own cable. They cost about $30 but you can get them cheaper. The game is totally worth it if you're interested in playing guitar, already play guitar but want to improve or you're stuck and can't get any better at guitar. Also for people who just want to learn how to play songs note for note.
