Well that's Riot games for you. Always trying so hard to put their game in the spotlight. They've been buying slots on events, signing contracts of exclusive participation and so forth. Too bad they don't use a fraction of their time trying to fix their game. It's so passive that it has to be one of the most boring games to watch. And every decision they make to make the game more fast paced and less of a turtle/ricing war just aggravates the problems.
I can’t stress enough how these guys in the LCS are on the road to being real, legitimate athletes.
lmao
“I can’t stress enough how these guys in the LCS are on the road to being real, legitimate athletes. This is new territory for a lot of teams (especially in esports), because the transition goes from being a group of talented individuals to being real icons of a sport and a league. Similarly, you probably wouldn’t see an NFL player promoting Arena Football or a Nike-sponsored player wearing Reebok on camera. Pro players are free to play whatever games they want – we’re simply asking them to keep in mind that, on-stream, they’re the face of competitive League of Legends.” this is a valid point
He has a point but it's still dog
lmao
are you perhaps implying pro gaming can't be considered a sport

Why are you in League threads if you don't like the game.
are you perhaps implying pro gaming can't be considered a sport
ath·lete ˈaTHˌlēt/ noun 1. a person who is proficient in sports and other forms of physical exercise. they are not athletes [editline]5th December 2013[/editline] you will struggle to find a definition of athlete that does not involve the word physical, exercise or strength
I find the usage of the word athlete odd as well but what else can you really call them when it's technically a sport
are you perhaps implying pro gaming can't be considered a sport
moreso calling them 'athletes', which is indeed laughing ones' ass off worthy
I find the usage of the word athlete odd as well but what else can you really call them when it's technically a sport
It's a sport, but you don't call them athletes in the same way you don't call chess players athletes this isn't devaluing them, it's just to say the description does not fit
That's why people usually say e-sports and e-athlete or pro gamer But who cares, is this high school English?
You're right, who cares about the definition of words!
Stereotypical rabid fanboy discovered. Why are you in League threads if you don't like the game.
You might as well be a fanboy yourself if you ignore any of the points I raised. I want the game to be better, I want them to fix the problems. I don't hate the game, I never said I did, but I also don't ignore the obvious problems with the game. What I hate is some of the obvious flawed design decisions they made.

For example, both the "buying event slots" and the whole "exclusive participation contracts" were proven false.

Also 400 hours on DotA2 going into a LoL thread talking shit about the game. Sorry dude but you are the stereotype.
you will struggle to find a definition of athlete that does not involve the word physical, exercise or strength
then don't we need to broaden the definition? they play a legitimate sport, they get athlete visas, i don't see why they shouldn't have the right to be called something other than just "pro gamers"

And you also just pretended that I didn't say anything about the game and just focused on the company.
Except half of them aren't actually true. For example, both the "buying event slots" and the whole "exclusive participation contracts" were proven false.
Proven false? No, they just denied it, it's different.

Multiple sources from different companies explained the actual situation. http://www.reddit.com/r/DotA2/comments/1lij8q/lack_of_dota_2_at_pax_pax_employee_pete_vapok/ What are you going to bring up next? "Riot won't allow teams to have rosters for other games!"? I've heard that one a lot before, and that's not true either.
What are you going to bring up next? "Riot won't allow teams to have rosters for other games!"? I've heard that one a lot before, and that's not true either.
That one would almost happened, but luckily the teams were strong enough to destroy that rule.
That one would almost happened, but luckily the teams were strong enough to destroy that rule.
Probably, yes. It was pre-season 2, iirc, when they were refining and discussing contracts prior to Season 2. You know, like they're doing now - refining iterations of the contract to see what people like and find reasonable. This isn't even the final contract. Also, this article is misleading. It was confirmed on /r/lol that it's only for streams advertised as League of Legends streams - IE, you can't play these games under the LoL section on Twitch, you have to switch to the game you're playing. It's to do with not endorsing competitors games, rather than not being allowed to stream or play them.
Also 400 hours on DotA2 going into a LoL thread talking shit about the game. Sorry dude but you are the stereotype.
Mang you stole that from another LoL thread
Still, i really hate to see such rivarly but w/e. That´s what you get when you go play those kind of games.

In Dota 2 it's common to farm for about 20 minutes before you do even leave your lane or kill a tower, where in League of Legends roaming, ganking and killing towers is common before 15 minutes. I last played like half a year ago though so things may have changed.
Sources?
It was the shitstorm of season 3. Of course Riot backpedalled and said it was just a "miscommunication". I'll dig up what I can, althought most of the stuff isn't on my PC right now. In the S3WC (most recent major event), the average first turret was just over 10 minutes.
