I know The Witcher 3 came out 2015 but that's still the best open world of 2017...
AC Origins is definitely a good game, but it's not the best game.

Pretty much this, I enjoy AC origins, it's a nice change from the older games but it still has the same problem, repetitive, the side quests are pretty much the same but the world is pretty nice to explore

I wish I recorded my reaction pyramids of Giza up close, I saw them in the distance and was determined to get to the top of one.
Then I got up close and looked at them like "Oh shit that's way bigger than I expected"

PC Gamer, shockingly, only discusses PC games. That's why Horizon and Zelda didn't win.
Everyone's disagreeing with this, but I'm genuinely having trouble remembering any OWGOTY-worthy PC games. I'm not seeing any real standouts looking through Google, so I wouldn't be surprised if they just went "uh let's use the most recent Ubisoft open-world game because we have to write an article about this either way"

If nothing is delayed, I'd count on 2018's OWGOTY list being miles better. When I'm being forced to consider Elex and Sniper Ghost Warrior 3 as contenders we've got a fucking problem.

Nier Automata is technically an open world game, although it's fantastic for reasons other than its open world.
It could definitely win a "Best Game That Happens To Be Open World 2017" award.
