so it's the end of the month and i'm getting paid soon, my 8800 is starting to feel a bit dated so looking at getting a new graphics card. was checking out the HD 5870 but am looking for some second opinions.
have around £300 to play with.
GTX 470 would be a good choice.
inb4 ZOMG IT EMITS LAVA
I'm getting the 5870, it is shipping as we speak. I could tell you how it works out when I get it if you want me to
I would recommend a HIS Radeon HD 5850 or a 5870.
5850 is $319.99 on Newegg.
i'm not in america, thanks though
I recommend

Get 6 GT 220s :smug:
Or get a 5870, your choice.
What about the rest of your system? List it all, including the PSU. The resolution you play at is also a factor

this
also in before hundreds of replies saying to get a 470, ignoring the shitty UK prices for them
Not hundreds, there are only a few people who like 470s, me and that other guy with the scary cat avatar.
Though right now, for your build. HIS 5870 or if your motherboard supports it, CF 4890

PSU - Corsair 650W
CPU - i5 OC'd to 3.4ghz
RAM - 2x 2GB DDR3
Graphics - 8800GT 256mb (1x 1920x1200 + 1x 1280x1024)
think that's it, either way i'm pretty sure the graphics is totally bottlenecking it

I'm finding it hard to justify getting sli/crossfire instead of a single better card, mainly because if i do that i'm totally screwing the opportunity of getting another 5870 in the future, iffy crossfire/sli compatibility etc
It was a joke mate, he didnt mean that, unless he's a retard, which is highly plausable seeming its NOZ
Anyway you have a massive gap with the 8800gts and the i5 :D
Maybe get a couple more 8800gt s if your motherboard supports it
Or a 5870

5870 will crush 8800 gt SLI.
Also, I recommend you get a heatsink such as the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ and OC the i5 to 4 ghz+
any recommendations for 120mm fans? considering replacing the stock fans in the case (Antec P183)
Scythe Ultra Kaze. Lots of them.

Yeah perfect opportunity to upgrade the GPU here. 5870 fits the bill, I think.

He is in the UK, therefore the new Nvidia cards are ruled out because of their ridiculously inflated price.

Yeah it's not exactly a good deal for the UK.
So... that is a tiny FPS gain for £70, £70 towards some extra cooling etc

Don't pay £250 for a 5850. They were £200 at release, and if you are patient look carefully you can pick one up for around £215-220 now.
I got mine of ebay for 180 each second hand, they were xfx ones so i have double life time warranty. Have a look on ebay but only get XFX.
Though you can just find ones for £220 on proper sites
I could get you a geforce 240 myself for like 90 bucks :smug:
Yeh but they arent great.

£223 for the Asus 5850 is a good deal, I paid £203 for mine. Sadly the cheap ones are on pre-order, I haven't checked the delivery date.
