What is the Best and Free Video Editor that is compatible with Windows and can edit the H.264/MP4-AVC format?
Edit: That also has a similar format to Windows Movie Maker.(To avoid confusion, I mean the way the interface looks)
Edit: Do not mention WMM, it is NOT compatible with the H.264/MP4-AVC video format.
Why not WMM? It's rather good for basic editing

I have not use that one but a friend in my class used it and he said it was really good for being a free video editor.
WMM turned to shit after it was ported to Live Essentials. You can't do much of anything in it.
The version that I found when I installed windows 7 is shit, as far as I can see you can't even edit stuff in a timeline view
But the older version was decent
Nothing stopping OP from... buying... that

The newest version is not. If you were to download the older version 2.6 its decent, but that still does not solve the problem with the H.264/MP4-AVC video format because WMM does not support it. I will though try out lightworks.
I support Lightworks since several movies have been made using it
Although I suppose WMM has made Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus
Spent 2 hours trying to use lightworks, and all i have to say, it is one of the most confusing layouts i have ever seen. I guess if i spent alot of time trying to work with it i might get used to it, but still there has to be a better option.

Try After effects CS4 it's horrible.
Tried a 30 day trail of Vegas Movie Studio HD and the preview lags like heck, and there is no apparent way to fix that problem.
Anymore suggestions?

+1 for this. It's a bit hard to get used to, but that's because it's actually a professional video editor.
I give up. This is the last thing i wanted to do but, I am just going to convert them. The converter i use though takes 3 hours to convert a 30 minute video. Anyone know a better converter that is free?
MeGui.
This thread has a bunch of video stuffs with tutorials and the like.

Kdenlive, supports almost any file format you throw at (can't think of one it doesn't) and is kinda like Vegas.
Lightworks.
I'm not gonna lie. But Lightworks is amazing considering its free and such.

KDenLive is awesome, but it's only for Linux.
If the OP has a good enough computer to run Virtualbox with a decent amount of memory, he may want to try the Virtualbox images though:
http://kdenlive.org/user-manual/downloading-and-installing-kdenlive/virtualbox-images
"Limitations
Virtualbox is not able to virtualize firewire ports. Therefore you will not be able to capture from your camcorder. You will be able to play DV and HDV files, not AVCHD. Be aware that this is only a demo package for demonstration of Kdenlive AND GNU/Linux. We do not think that running Kdenlive in a virtualbox is a suitable solution for daily work."
This means the video files I have from a Sony Bloggie MHS-PM5 are not compatible. If someone would like to provide me a way to install Kdenlive on Ubuntu through virtual box, it would be very helpful.
Also stop suggesting Light Works. I have spend 4 hours trying to figure it out with a couple of guides and I can not get the hang of it.

Well , I tried out Format Factory and tried converting the Video files from The HD format to WMV. I must say, its very fast, and I do not see any differences between both videos, even though they are about the exact same size. I also tried to see if it could import them into WMM and it does. A mod can close this now.
Just use ffmpeg for converting?
