Oh, and I haven't yet chosen a case. Anyone got any suggestions? (I'm using everything from www.umart.com.au at the moment)
What state? NSW? QLD? Anyway, I would use this website (www.itestate.com.au) I used that site when I built my PC and for everything like yours it was $970 without PSU or Case. They have a pretty good range and they are so cheap. And the shipping is pretty good as well. [editline]07:01PM[/editline] What do you need and what do you not need?
I need a new everything, except for a mouse... ha-ha. I updated my build a little a couple minutes ago, and I now have a case with an inbuilt 600W PSU, I'll put it up in a sec. Thanks for the link, I'll check them out after I update the OP. OP Updated.

Thank you and have a nice day. EDIT: Oh wait, you live in Australia. You could've told us in your original post. Due to your inflated dollar this setup would be higher than $1200 AUS.
The only reason to go with an AMD Callisto is if you are going to try to unlock the other cores. But can you live with that decision if the unlocking doesn't work? If it was me, building my first real gaming computer, I'd go for something I could count on. You could go AMD quad core, then spend what you can on the best vidcard that fits your budget. This will give you faster gaming now. If you go Intel quad, you'll have less to spend now on a vidcard however you could still upgrade that videocard at some later time. Meanwhile, you'd have a faster overall computer. It really depends on your monitor and gaming resolution. That's going to determine what level(and therefore price) of videocard you're going to need.
On that budget I would go with this:
OP's in Australia.
Yes I have already established that.
Yes I have already established that.
And he missed it.
And he missed it.
$1,086.91 is $1,176.36 in australian dollars so the specs I posted work either way assuming PC prices in australia aren't like disgustingly bloated.
It looks like they are. On the site the OP posted that 5850 is $400.
Ouch... that sucks
Will most definitely be getting Windows 7, but the one thing I'm not sure about is a monitor? Any suggestions? And a mouse. I've got a mouse at the moment, but it's just your standard mouse, nothing special about it, so if anyone knows of a decent, not overpriced/overbuttonized mouse, please, feel free to share

It beats my 240 by a long shot, and OCs extremely well.
Too bad the i3 530 owns it and is at the same price.
I give you This in advance. And by the way, I found this. This is against the Amd athlon II x4 620, and it doesn't pwn it. And the i3 is 20$ more expensive than the 630. So the i3 doesn't pwn at all here. It's called REAL quad..
Too bad the i3 530 owns it and is at the same price.
It's $20 more? The main comparison here is the 620/620 vs 550. (Which are actually the same price.)

The only reason the i3 costs more is because it has graphics processing built into the chip. Only virgin asspies like you would use the word "pwn" anyway. If you want to save money go with the Athlon II X3 435. That's what I did and although I wasn't successful in unlocking the 4th core I was able to unlock the L3 cache so it's essentially a Phenom II X3 @ 3.3Ghz now.

Alright, so theres been a lot of debate between AMD's new Phenom and Intel's new i5/i7 series, I myself am a fan of Intel, but I've heard AMD are good for gaming, can someone with a non biased view explain the two without starting a heated argument in a thread where someone just wants suggestions for their new build? Alright, so clearly Windows 7 64-bit is the way to go, but which version should I get? I've tried Ultimate/Professional/Home and Enterprise and they all seem pretty alike, are there features I've been missing? In regards to HDDs, does it really matter if I get something other than a 1TB Western Digital that uses SATA3? Won't using SATA3 prolong my computers life (in the sense that I won't be left behind in technology... much)? I like the sound of the ATI HD5830 but deep down inside I'm an NVidia man... :( What are the real benefits of using the HD5830 over the Gigabyte GTX260+ SOC? besides a small addition of GDDR5? As for the mobo, I'm not really sure what to go with, are there specific brands I should use/avoid? Generally I just chose a motherboard that fits my parts. What are the advantages of the Liteon disk drive over the Samsung drive I chose? A decorative case is a MUST... It'll increase the size of my penis amongst my LAN peers, as we all know. So I chose the Inwin B2 ATX case with the 600W PSU, does that really matter much? (Other than the fact 600W is a bit over the top for my specs?) And last but not least, should I bother installing an additional network card for LAN cables? or is there some kind of adapter I can get should I ever need it?
I don't know 'bout you other guys, but I actually like cases looking a little different than the arctype: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811196028&Tpk=aerocool%20M40 This is the one I'm using, it's uses a MicroATX, but I think it's pretty cool.
