Hello,
I've been gaming for the past 6ish months on a laptop. The Asus G73jh, and while it runs games fine there are so many quirks that I cannot work out on my own like I did with desktops. As such I have become disenchanted with the laptop and want a desktop.
I work in IT so I know what I'm doing when it comes to building the PC and setting it up, but I've been out of the PC building scene for a while and haven't read enough benchmarks to get a read on the current gen hardware. So basically my build can be about 1500$ that is a loose figure I can probably justify another 200$ but if you save me 200$ I won't be mad either.
This is what I have so far:
(Don't need windows)

I'm not sure how that will hold up to newer games, so critique is welcome.
your gonna need a z68 mobo if you wanna use ssd aching
Just use the SSD properly, smart response isn't that great
Looks good to go.
You're spending rather a lot on the motherboard though. I would cut that down by $100 and get a 570.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811352015 the H2 is shit, the Fractal Define R3 is so much better for not much more
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145315 get two 4GB sticks, not four 2GB sticks, and you can get 8GB for much less
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148441 better SSD for less
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817256059 fully modular, cheaper, still great
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131729 will most likely suit your purposes exactly the same for much less
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130593 you could use the savings to bump up to a 6970 or 570
and get a 212+ to overclock the 2500k
This is what it looks like Now:

I updated the OP
I just got an NZXT H2 classic case and it's pretty sick, (also $85 at TigerDirect)
Really nice build, the only thing i would change is the RAM.
Something to keep in mind is that 4x2 gig is faster then 2x4 gig.

What is there faster?
4x2GB just takes more room and usually costs more than 2x4GB sticks...

Honestly I've explained it to 100 people and everytime they just say "nuh uh" then i tell them to google why it's faster and they stop replying. Just bare in mind it is more expensive for a reason.
That is such a little amount faster. Maybe 0.5FPS, you will not need it lol.
Also, link to it, please? Where is that proof.

Technically it's faster because it's optimised for dual-channel.
BUT that increase is negated by the increased strain on the memory controller.
