Well now it's complete, Valve don't have to make anything anymore.

Ehh, it's been like this for years now.
Personally I would have much preferred a TF2 game where all the hats and items were created (and sold) by Valve. No cross-overs, no elf-scouts, no candy canes, no bullshit.
Hell, there's even this modern sniper rifle (like L8-something in real world, not sure) for the Sniper class, which is so out of place in the world of TF2 that it hurts.

The difference is at least Valve had to make these promo items.
Previous promo items had been co created with community contributors as well.
This time they open it up for everyone instead of contacting those select few.

Don't they still make new weapons every 2-3 years?
Don't they still make new weapons every 2-3 years?
This question is basically
"Don't they still make new weapons every never-ever years?"
Remember when Resident Evil 6 had all that L4D2 content in it, and Valve just asked the community to make Resident Evil 6 themed mods for L4D2 them instead of making anything themselves?
Yeah, me neither.

To me it makes no difference if the content is valve made or community made. What I wish is that Valve would have stuck to the original artstyle more instead of turning TF2 universe into this wacky and quite whimsy thing with their crossover, christmas trees and shit you mentioned.

The sniper is based on the TFC sniper. It even has the same mechanics

, he says like a week after the Halloween update with custom map and new minigames shipped.

Oh yea, I remembered wrong.. What I meant is this:

It's from CS:GO apparently. Otherwise a perfectly cool(?) rifle, but in the world of TF2? Nah..
Valve wanted mo' money out of TF2, which is fair, but in the end they took kind of a cheap route. What was basically the next installment of the Team Fortress classic, which was anticipated by many, they turned into an experiment of sorts..
It was all fine and cool until the MannCo update and a bit further than that I guess, but man, from a public point of view the image of this game is ruined with completely unrelated shit.

Except community has been doing promo-items since 2011 and Valve still makes updates with their own maps, weapons and other content?

Then why not scrap half of the other tf2 promo items?
They are promotional items, so they look similar to the other game (not TF2). That's the whole point of promo items.

True, true.. I just wished TF2 didn't put so much emphasis on things like promotional items and what have you these days, instead of just creating more "original" content like the Class Updates.
It's been clearly used as a marketing gimmick, and as a testing ground, and when I bought this game (see, some people actually bought it in the form of the Orange Box) I didn't buy myself into THIS. (the present day TF2)
If valve 'keep making' things like this. I don't give a fuck what they do with TF2. Valve isn't just a game development company. Proof of this is on their about us page as well as their former name. Valve Software.
I really could not give two shits if Valve lets the community do some cosmetic items. The game is still loads of fun, I laugh my ass off whenever I play with my friends, so for me everything's fine.
Really, if style is your problem, just install one of those mods that replaces everything with vanilla skins.
Well now it's complete, Valve don't have to make anything anymore.
Didn't they release a new Halloween gamemode last week? That sounds like it takes more effort to create than a few hats.
Didn't they release a new Halloween gamemode last week? That sounds like it takes more effort to create than a few hats.
As with every tf2 update if people don't like it then they act like it doesn't exist.
The difference is at least Valve had to make these promo items.
Valve hasn't been making the promo items for years, this is probably to counteract the fact that specific community users were being privately tabbed by companies to make their promos.
