Hi I'm looking for a file that downloads really slow at like 100 bytes per second (not even a kb/s)
Anyone know any of these files? Or how to throttle a download in firefox so it will go that slow?
The reason why I need a file like this is because I have a hypothesis on my wireless connection. If there is a constant download going on then my wireless never cuts off after ~10 mins or so. Which is why I need a file that downloads really slow to have that effect.
Set up a torrent for some Linux Distros and cap the bandwidth for them?
You could try torrenting a Linux distro, set the speed limit to like 10 KB/s and let it seed at that same obscenely low speed.
Hmmmm yes I never thought about capping my torrents before.. I'll try my hypothesis with torrents and post results later.
When tethered to my phone's 3G connection, I open a command line window and type in ping -t www.google.com
What this command does is constantly ping Google, keeping your connection active without consuming a lot of data (Important if your phone's plan has a small data plan). Another thing to look for is going into the network connections window, right clicking the wireless card and then clicking properties. Look around that window for power saving options.
The card is likely shutting off in moments of inactivity to save power. Another place to look for power saving options is in the Power Options control panel. There should be some advanced settings available for your current power plan that involve Wifi.
Yup. Simply ping something constantly. It was supposed to help.
