Please tell me you actually read the article? It is a game, made for free for a competition. I really feel like insulting you but that is unnecessary.
Or just try it, you can play it in your browser. Doesn't take very long and is pretty fun. Although maybe the comparison in the article is a bit far fetched. It's challenging, yes, and it's fun. Woo.
pretty sick of games being summarised by being compared with others
this is neither shadow of the colossus nor dark souls, it's just a difficult game

he's betterthanyou so what's the point
The game itself looks fine but I'm getting real sick of RPS just namedropping popular titles for their articles.
why the fuck is anything advertised as being difficult now dark souls
when will this shit stop
Very misleading title

When games with challenge start to become a thing again.
When I hear a game compared to Shadow of the Colossus or Dark Souls, I expect an epic of adventurous fantasy, in a vast, detailed, 3D world. Not a top-down "retro-styled" game.
Titan Souls is DayZ meets Minecraft.

But dark souls isn't even that hard??? I swear to god it's like everyone else was playing farmville before they found dark souls :v:

When I hear a game compared to Shadow of the Colossus or Dark Souls I know that the person making the comparison is doing it entirely for attention/page clicks.

It's pretty challenging, but you compare Demon and Dark Souls to 80% of the other games that came out during their time, and suddenly it seems like the hardest fucking game in existence.

If you try to play Dark Souls like most action/adventure/RPGs then it'll kick your teeth in. If you take the time to understand the internal logic of Dark Souls (which honestly makes more sense than most games) then you can breeze through it.

Sorry guys I just really don't agree, I found my first run through ever (with the exception of a few minutes played with my friend who had just gotten it) very easy with a few exceptions. There's a few things that are annoying the first time you do them, like sen's fortress, the dickbow archers, and the crystal caverns, but the basic gameplay is pretty easy. Even most of the PVP encounters I've had were pretty easy with the exception of twinks, I'm just not sure what everyone finds so hard. The vast majority of the basic enemies can be beaten by just holding your shield up until they swing then hitting them, and most of the bosses aren't that much worse. O&S are nightmares for a new player solo of course but there's an npc there to help you and there's a shortcut that makes getting there extremely easy.
Comparing it to "Most RPGs" is a little bit rough too, what RPGs are you comparing it to exactly? Skyrim? Fable? The former has difficulty levels that pretty heavily vary in difficulty, the worst typically having basic enemies kill you in a couple hits. Devil may cry 4 has a level that can randomly pit you against bosses mid-level, and Dragon's Dogma has no problem with dropping a dragon with 80,000 health on your path towards one of the earliest quests in the game (which has you fight multiple boss monsters inside of a small courtyard with explosive ballistae firing on you).
To it's credit, at the very least dark souls doesn't hold your hand and it is above average in difficulty, but I seriously don't get the "hardest game evar" attitude people give it. Every time it's even mentioned in conversation someone goes "omg dark souls? that's so hard isn't it?" and I'm just baffled
Maybe your definition of hard is different to other people's definition. From your examples you seem to consider enemies with a lot of health hard, I consider that to be fake difficulty.
When games with challenge start to become a thing again.
i haven't ever played a single video game that didn't present some kind of challenge so i'm really not sure what you're talking about
that's what video games are dude

Difficulty isn't solely based on enemies health but it is an important factor which you should probably consider. If you gave any boss in dark souls (BoC excluded) 1 health, it would be easy as shit because you wouldn't even have to worry about dodging a single attack, you could just shoot it to kill it mid-attack even. Likewise if you made your own health so high that it would take hundreds of hits to kill you it would make dark souls quite easy, without changing any other mechanics.
In any case the most rough example of difficulty that I guess you missed or something while reading the 80,000 health bit was the example of having to fight multiple bosses in the middle of a level, with no reprieve or chance to recuperate in between. It'd be like if in dark souls you could only shop before entering an area, and then once inside you could run into almost any of the bosses in the game with no real limit on the amount of encounters, and had no ability to restore your estus flask until you finished the level.
once you know how dark souls works its pretty easy to break the shit out of it to the point that the only challenge is a good pvp player

Actually the game in this thread was making a big point out of exactly giving every boss 1 health. I enjoyed that thoroughly and I think it's something games should do more of. Bosses or enemies having a lot of health isn't necessarily bad, but it easily does turn into fake difficulty (see The Elder Scrolls).
Everyone talks about how dark souls is easy once you understand the mechanics but no one actually explains them.

press B to not die, hold B to fucking run for your life
You guys should try playing Facepunch, it's like Postal 2, Saint's Row and Two Girls One Cup all rolled up into a text-based MMO. You win by getting rep but the learning curve is like Dwarf Fortress and Eve Online except really, really abusive.
Nathan Grayson is pretty shitty with his game comparisons. Wish he'd stop doing that.
The game itself is fun though, and it does remind me of SotC a bit.

I play skyrim on master difficulty pretty exclusively and it never turns into "fake" difficulty, the complaints you hear about that are pretty fake themselves. Anyway, yeah titan souls is hard and enemies have only 1 health, but you have only 1 health too so that kinda goes back to my point, doesn't it? The bosses have invincibility stages, and you don't.

whoa it has a soldier and you shoot people
it's like call of duty and battlefield!
Rust... it's day z and minecraft!
the only exception is when someone says shit that makes sense, like "Dishonored is kinda, Half life style, but the theme is more assassins creed meets bioshock"

Or how about that every FPS is compared to CoD or Battlefield and is instantly crucified if it doesn't have ironsights?
