Why do people associate "Cock a doodle do" with the sound roosters make?

Extensive research has not yielded any insights so perhaps the linguistic experts on Facepunch will know. Why the hell do people answer "cock a doodle do" when asked to describe the sound roosters make? I have never heard a rooster make this sound and would in fact be concerned for the health and wellbeing of the rooster if I ever heard one say it.
I propose we change the phrase to "eeeehhhh eeee ehhhh uuuhhhh" as it is a more accurate representation of the sound a rooster makes.
Thank you for your time.
Eeeehhhh eeee ehhhh uuuhhhh doesn't exactly roll off the tongue.
I tried making that sound, it was more like a seal being clubbed to death.
same reason that you describe the sound those undead things in OOT as going OOOoooOOooooo, even though it's more like EUUUGHuuUNGHHARUUUUN or some shit
looks better
It might have something to do with it being called a cock
I'm sure you'll also be shocked to know that dogs don't go "woof".
you're right it sounds more like HARK
get a bunch of dogs together and you have a christmas carol
Onomatopoeia can be confusing at times. I never got why people say boom for an explosion.

Yeah, explosions are more like a FWUHPAAAH.
It's all arbitrary and in the pronunciation, trying to say things are that aren't part of our language is difficult.
"woof"
"meow"
"whinny"
"quack"
"squeek"
It applies for alot of animals.
When I saw the thread title on the front page I instantly completed the sentence as "Why do people associate cocks with being thick and dicks being thin"

Horse
[QUOTE=Crimson_Bomb;25473272]
"quack"

Ducks go "UACK" so quack is actually pretty close
This is all based on the perception of the person hearing it.
The general census says "Cock a doodle doo" works best.
Deal w/ it.

Horses whinny.
Or atleast, people say they do, so fuck you.
