Everyone likes to forget that Super Meat Boy and Binding of Issac are literally flash games in an .exe.
Everyone likes to forget that Super Meat Boy and Binding of Issac are literally flash games in an .exe.
Super Meat Boy is not a Flash game, though -- the graphics were made in Flash, and then rendered to "sprite sheets" used for the game. It is not programmed as such. Binding of Isaac is, though.
Also of mention was that VVVVVV also used to be Flash, before the re-coded the entire game in an update.
why does it fucking matter if it's flash or not
Stability?

You're free to have your opinion, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with the new art style. From a completely neutral standpoint, it's new. I honestly think it's a nice, cleaner look. It find it quite refreshing, actually. Besides, it's not like you have any obligation at all to play it or even acknowledge its existence.

From looking at the new art style in the comparison image posted above, I honestly can see why some people might get upset. Looking at it, it seems like they switched the style from bright pastel colors and simple shapes (which fit the show nicely), to black border-free, more detailed and mellower-colored art (which IMO looks a little too "real" in regards to the show it illustrates).
Neither style is bad, and it's all a matter of personal opinion, really. Personally, don't like the new one as much since it looks more... generic, I suppose? I remember seeing plenty of cartoons that went with this sort of mellow lineless style, and either as a result or coincidentally they were utterly forgettable tripe. In terms of looking too "real" (or as close as a 2D cartoon can get), it's also kinda wrong as well to me. The massive eyes and heads plus tiny mouths just don't look quite right in a style with meticulous hair detail and plentiful shading.
The whole simple original style worked in the same simple sense as a child's drawings, except with obviously way better line and color work. Also, it had borderline-obscenely-bright colors, which also brought the whole "kid-friendly" feeling up further. This new style just seems more mature and with darker, more "normal" colors, which would all be well and good if the character designs and proportions weren't so cartoon-y and simply-shaped. Also, the overly detailed hair is kinda weirding me out, it looks really out of place and somewhat like a bad case of bedhead in spots.
But hey, it's all personal opinion. And no matter what style you like, new, old or both, I'm sure we can all agree that it's hilarious that I'm willing to waste this much effort making a post debating cartoon art styles.
Edit: I forgot to mention, the new art style also really screams "made in Flash" to me. That's not a bad thing in the slightest, since some damn good animation can come from Flash, but it really does bear a striking resemblance to almost every other Flash-animated cartoon I've seen, mostly ones with "meh" quality. Again, not condemning Flash animation, just saying the new style just has that general "Flash" look to it, whereas the original style looks like nothing else I've ever really seen before or since.
As long as the game is good and is priced fairly, who cares about anything else? With the exception of whether or not the devs deserve to be supported.
I´ll wait for reviews for this kind of thing.
I want to buy it since i am a fan of PPG but at the same time i would rather have a Samurai Jack/Megas XLR themed game.
More like Super Meat Girls

Still waiting for Bad Rats TC.
why does it fucking matter if it's flash or not
Because flash is awful, especially for games.
New style isn't half bad once you remove nostalgia glasses.
Is Cartoon Network trying to get kids sign up in Steam?

Go too Newgrounds and clicks on "Games"
Go too Newgrounds and clicks on "Games"
Now I like Newgrounds and think flash is good enough, but almost all NG games doesn't scream really scream "stable."

How else are they gonna sell it?

No, it isn't
why does it fucking matter if it's flash or not
It gives people more reasons to irrationally hate indie games because they don't really understand how games are developed.
It's the same as people screaming "YOU CAN MAKE THIS WITH UDK IN FIVE MINUTES" for a bunch of first person shooters on unreal.

They can just use Mobile, or console!
Just not Steam, we have too many little kids on Steam!
