It's poorly written as per usual with this newsbot, but I think he's mainly stating how important teamwork is. Also blaming whoever was at the PAX stand for letting children play a mature title.
EDIT: Um. Lates?

I kinda got the vibe that he felt the game was so shallow and dull that the kids were the ones that enjoyed it the most, and that not being for the 'right' reasons.
He could have talked about things he liked, he could have let people know what the new character was like, (assuming he was able to play the character) he could have talked about changes and/or improvements to the mechanics, or anything...
Instead he fled to the Internet and made a long winded article complaining about some kids who were messing around in a demo.
That's some quality shit right there.
But my time playing Riptide with a couple children underlined more than anything just how self-serving this argument really is. On the one hand, these are games intended for an older, more mature audience. But on the other hand, who are we kidding? They are for exactly the kind of immature boys I played with, regardless their age. How many times is a design pitched at an impatient, impulsive action gamer who isn’t too big on listening or planning? It’s not just that a lot of games are full of mindless pretend violence, but that everything but the mindless violence is disposable.
Seems to be the essence of what he's saying to me.
Also, what's with all the lates in here? This a repost or something?

He wasn't really criticizing the game that much. The article was more about how the industry is pandering to younger audiences by making simple games instead of making good games or taking risks.
No, he was literally just complaining about some kids messing around in a demo. I read the whole thing, that's all it was.
"Megh, damn kids messing around in my vidya! This is serious business!"
It was a demo. I would reckon that most people playing a demo, regardless of age, would just goof around and have fun with it, since they won't be able to really get into anything with limited play time/ability, unless of course they are trying to "study" it for press release purposes or something.
That's all this is, he was glute galled about some kids messing around in a demo and went on the Internet to whine about it.

Did you even read the article? Blaming the game? You're silly.

The fuck does that even mean? Just because 10 year olds have the motor skills to operate a controller doesn't mean that games are "~pandering to younger audiences~"
You see, Riptide isn’t a game for children, but a pair of little kids loved it all the same. And that’s a problem.
This section is really fucking hilarious. "Waaahhh younger people can enjoy a rated M game, that's bad! Ruining the industry with... being able to stretch out and be enjoyed by people of all ages! Rated M games are for mature adults only and these kids are RUINING IT. I myself, as an early 20's journalist never played games or watched movies that were targeted at an older age, it's all these kids' fault!"

While his reasoning is bad, the shooter genre at the very least is being dumbed down to pander to younger audiences (see CoD and BF3)

according to what? the fact that not all FPS games are lightning speed bunny hopping 1-hit-kill keycard hunts?
It's bad that children enjoy violent vidya games because a group of shitty children made one experience poor.

According to the fact that many games are homogenizing their gameplay or tacking on multiplayer get get it in with the CoD crowd.

do you have any source on this or are you just not satisfied with how modern shooters work? people always say that games are becoming "cod-like" and it's kinda fucking dumb. just because games don't have health packs and have ironsights instead of hip firing doesn't mean they're "pandering to kids"

To be honest, I like ironsights and regenning health. Stop assuming stupid shit.
You can have those elements without making every shooter feel the same, though.

There have been plenty of shooters recently that aren't like CoD at all. The only ones that closely imitate CoD are fucking awful, like MoH WF and Homefront.
“I don’t even care, assface,” trilled the other. “I was just gonna walk anyway. I like killing these guys.”

Kid's these days.. I could never get away with stuff like this.. probably couldn't even get away with it now.
Wait why were 9 year olds at PAX, I thought you had to be 18 to go there?
and why were they playing an M-rated game when they shouldn't be allowed to do that (they shouldn't be allowed to do that in their homes either but you can't control that as strictly as you can at a goddamn PAX game preview booth)

blame the parents
and there's nothing to really stop young kids from playing M rated games and we shouldn't call them out for it, because everyone here has played M rated games before the age of 17
