• Computer not using all of RAM?

okay so i was looking at my computers task manager and opened the performance tab. The cpu looked fine, but then i saw the memory tab. It said under it 2.68 gb when i have 4 gb of ddr2 ram on windows 7 64-bit. What the hell?
Picture's broken. What do you have running that would lead you to assume that you should be using all your RAM?
I'm not expert but maybe because it didn't need to use all of it? it's like the CPU it doesn't run at 100% all the time. i might be wrong.
Picture's broken. What do you have running that would lead you to assume that you should be using all your RAM?
well thats what im thinking is weird, i only have firefox, zune player, and microsoft word open and it says 67% usage ???
139 processes. Fuckin hell, that's where your memory is at. I only have 70 processes.
well thats what im thinking is weird, i only have firefox, zune player, and microsoft word open and it says 67% usage ???
Just because you only have 3 things "open" doesn't mean that you only have 3 things running. In your case, you have 139 things running, just not "open" per se. Go through your process manager and end all processes that you aren't using right now. AIM, etc. Instant messengers and Steam are greedy bastards.
i opened up the processes tab this doesn't look like 135 processes to me
Hit that button that says processes from all users. See mine.
oh dammit dad [editline]12:23AM[/editline] he has like 75 things running
oh dammit dad [editline]12:23AM[/editline] he has like 75 things running
Then there is your culprit lol and the reason for some many processes/high memory usage.
Wasn't your dad the guy with the huge hands? He probably just opens 10 programs as his giant mitts smash on the keyboard. Run msconfig and eliminate useless startup programs!
Wasn't your dad the guy with the huge hands?
where the hell did you hear that?? and thanks for the msconfig tip!
I have 28 processes running and I'm using 600mb of my 4gb of ram. Ideally you never want to max out your ram.
Open the start menu, and type "msconfig". Go to the startup tab. Post a screenshot of everything in there.
show processes for all users, and you have a shit ton of shit running
-snip- I get it now, op title fucked me up. 73 isn't really all that bad. I have 57, when windows vista/7 encounter a program that needs more it does so smartly. Vista and 7 cache programs in ram when you aren't using it basically. (7 does it better though)
show processes for all users, and you have a shit ton of shit running
i did the misconfig and restarted my computer, its better now
73 is still a lot... stock windows 7 ultimate runs at about 40
I'm rocking about 50 processes on boot.
63 :saddowns:
Jesus, all you guys are all morons. The red part is memory in-use The blue part is total memory, which is 4GB
I've got 49 processes running (on all users) :v:
Wow, you are fuckin stupid. We know that, we are pointing out WHY he has so many processes and high memory usage.
I'm using 1.6gb of 4gb of ddr2 Ram.. around 3% CPU used too.. 66 processes
Wow, you are fuckin stupid. We know that, we are pointing out WHY he has so many processes and high memory usage.
I didn't see one post in here that answered his question which was 'Computer not using all of RAM?'
