Build.
It's fun, I can mix and match parts from different stores and get the exact components I want, and I don't have to deal with stupid crap like "opening your case voids your warranty".
Plus that new electronics smell~
Nothing beats the feeling of carrying in around a dozen boxes. all of which Are parts you just ordered from Newegg or Amazon. Unboxxing them and assembling it all. Its like you built your own child.
Build build build. He also mentions getting someone else to assemble it for him which could just mean you give them the parts you want, where as I thought pre-built meant it coming from the factory pre-loaded with useless software to boost the price (my laptop was like that).

Building a girlfriend isn't much better though, is it?
Unless it's a very bottom end budget box, or laptop, its always cheaper to build, and you get quality control on parts. No gaming rigs with WD greens, IED power supplies, moar corez processors, 530s for GPUs, OCZ SSDs, etc.
If you have lots of disposable income, it's worth going online to one of those sites that let you customize everything that goes in the box. You at least get some semblance of quality by doing that. Buying fully prebuilt gamer branded gear is a surefire way to get a shitbox though.
