• Internet disconnects after a set time period after setting a static IP.

Here's my mysterious woe; Since on my Xbox my NAT was set to 'Strict' and on my PC I was unable to create a server I decided it would be a nice idea to forward my ports. Of course, since IPs bounce (192.XXX.X.XXX.*DEVICE NUMBER*) I had to set a static IP so that it wouldn't. I was glad to find that after setting a static IP everything worked splendidly. I made a server people joined on and the Xbox seached for matches quickly. (I set own ports and static IPs for those specific ports on both machines) Now, after an estimated 10 minutes, every time I seem to disconnect from Xbox live on the Xbox. Even in the middle of matches. And after an estimated 10 minutes I can't use my browsers. They all stop working. So do my downloads. However I seem to be able to still run my server and chat in Steam (Not Skype) and MSN. What I'm guessing is that my upload still works. The problem can be solved by switching to auto IP, but then I can't make servers or play with my other strict or moderate NAT friends. Help is appreciated to the fullest. Note; I haven't yet called tech support. I could e-mail them, but from experience I'll probably just get a reply that really, really doesn't help me 2 weeks after sending them a well-written long e-mail with every little detail I can think of. Calling them I'd just get in an amazingly long waiting line.
I'm bumping this once before I go tech support.
If by static IP you mean setting a device to a static local IP address instead of letting DHCP assign one, it should work. (Note there's a difference between a static external IP and a static internal one, the external one is given to you by your ISP and usually costs extra, the internal one is just excluding a device from your router's DHCP and forcing it to a specific IP like 192.168.1.100 or 192.168.1.101) Make sure you are forwarding the ports to the right device. Try resetting the router Give us some more details like what router you have and firmware version, etc. Restart your Xbox. Actually it sounds like it's some modem issue, unplug both your router and modem for a good 10-15 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
(Note there's a difference between a static external IP and a static internal one, the external one is given to you by your ISP and usually costs extra, the internal one is just excluding a device from your router's DHCP and forcing it to a specific IP like 192.168.1.100 or 192.168.1.101)
Well aware of the above.
Make sure you are forwarding the ports to the right device.
I am. 21015 (Or something like that) is to .106, or my PC. 3000 something is to .101, my Xbox. I know it works because the NAT problem is fixed and I can play fine. I can also host servers that people are able to join.
Try resetting the router
Well, I actually don't use a router. At all. I use some weird contraption called 'Cisco SD208 8-port 10/100 Switch'. I have some weird ultra-modern fiber-optic direct connection or something like that. The 'Cisco SD208 8-port 10/100 Switch' doesn't have any buttons on it.
Give us some more details like what router you have and firmware version, etc.
No idea what my firmware version is.
Restart your Xbox.
I've had this problem consistently for about a month. So, yeah, it's been on and off a few times.
Actually it sounds like it's some modem issue, unplug both your router and modem for a good 10-15 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
I don't have a modem either. Guess I should have mentioned some of that in the OP. :v:
This still needs solving, please.
