Another one of those Portal2.exe stopped working thread.

Any help with this? I verified the integrity of the game cache, and that didn't work, right now im trying re-dling the whole game to see if that works. Any ideas?

Speccy crashed when it tried to analyze *sigh* 1 MORE moment.

Also, re-dling the whole thing did nothing.

Also a note: Any games that use hl2.exe (except gmod,css) dont work for me either. (hl2ep1)

This is frustrating because Portal 1 works perfectly.

Im considering reinstalling steam completely, if that doesnt work.. I must resort to reformatting, I needed space anyway.

Amazing steam, i take your offer in updating my ATI drives to the latest, and you screw up my dual monitors, leaving one with no folders and the other clusterfucked and i had to re-arrangeGAHH

Oh my freaking god I REINSTALLED STEAM AND RE-DLED PORTAL 2 AND IT DIDN'T DO ANYTHING. GRAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Wait for a patch. I also crash like every 5-10 minutes. It's totally random and does not apply to all PCs. (Latest drivers and updates installed)

Any nearly any tip against "crashing of Portal 2" you can find in the net is just the common bla-bla which has not even been tested to work ("Run as Admin","Run in compatibility mode","Set rights of those files to this and that","Update drivers","Install Updates","Disable data-execute-prevention").
I have just found a website with "tips to fight Portal 2 crashes" where there were about 20 or so. It's just bullshit. Wait for a patch, it's a programming error. It crashed in Portal2.exe (and no external dll) when it tried to access a part of memory it isn't allowed to (= programming error in 99% of all cases).

hmmm, i hope the patch they release fixes this, i think it also has to do with hl2ep1 and other hl2.exe games (other then css,tf2 and gmod) getting the "hl2.exe has stopped working" directly after hitting play. Hope they do it soon, when my bro got the spare copy cause of the golden potato and already pre-ordered it, he gave me portal 2 and damn was i happy.. till this.

Its kinda wierd, everyone atleast gets a glimpse of the start up of the valve logo, but i see nothing.

If no one else has any idea why portal2.exe crashes right from the start (no intro screen, no valve logo, no portal 2 menu, just straight to portal2.exe has stopped working)
Ill probably reformat.
