Here is my current list of items, I have a normal HDD already so that isnt an issue, but aside from that want to upgrade everything Case: $149.00 Antec P183 V3 Case http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_733&products_id=16627 Mobo: $135.00 ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Motherboard http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=138_711_1183&products_id=19867 CPU: $205.00 Intel Core i5 3570 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=187_346_1184&products_id=20893 GFX: $259.00 EVGA GeForce GTX 660 2GB Superclocked http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=193_1434&products_id=21538 PSU: $85.00 Corsair CX-500 Modular 80+ Bronze Power Supply http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_354&products_id=22421 RAM: $69.00 Corsair CMX8GX3M2A2000C9 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=186_538_913&products_id=22240 SSD: $109.00 Samsung 840 Series 120GB SSD Retail Box http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=210_902_909&products_id=22033 Can anyone see any issues with this build? Is the power supply enough? the ram compatible? the CPU and MOBO a good match?
If you live near any of the CBD areas of australia, MSY may have cheaper prices on items use (and if you live in sydney area i can point you to some cheaper stores.) http://www.staticice.com.au/ to check on prices. As for the price I probably get a 7870 and also an i5 3570k incase you want to overclock in the future and personally i rather get a Define R4 if you want a silent case than the antec one
Yeah that case looks really outdated. If you want the clean look: Antec P280 - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_733&products_id=21798 BitFenix Shinobi - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_1171&products_id=20157 Fractal Define R4 - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_1055&products_id=21166 Other cases that are good as well but have a "gamer" look to them: Cooler Master 690 II Advanced - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_31&products_id=18722 Cooler Master Storm Scout 2 - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_31&products_id=21660 Corsair Carbide 500R (also comes in white) - http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=25_961&products_id=18307 The 7870 is a little better performing than the GTX 660 and is around the same price. The Samsung 840 Pro has much faster write speeds than the regular version you've chosen, but the $50 difference doesn't necessarily justify the performance increase. You don't need such fast RAM, http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=186_218_1125&products_id=17729 will give you nearly the exact same performance for $14 less. As striker said above me, the 3570k will leave overclocking as an option in the future to give you a performance boost rather than buying a whole new CPU and motherboard.
Thanks for the replies! I know msy and have been to the one near Paramatta quite a few times, might go there this time as well. Also know staticice, but figure since I will be ordering two of these systems if I order online I would rather get it all packed together. If going for a physical store though, might as well be whatever is cheapest. Also I have never overclocked in my life, so didn't really care, but for $20 more it might be worth it. Does it have old USB ports or nowhere to mount SSD or something? I picked it because I was after a case which was minimalistic in appearance, had the button on the front (it will be slotted under a desk where the top is not accessible) and had the button outside the swinging door (really pissed me off on my current case and the door ended up breaking from over use). I will look through those cases you listed though, they look good, and a couple of them I was already quite interested in. I thought the ram might not be necessary, so thanks for the heads up on that! With the GFX card, not to sound like an Nvidia fanboy but I have always had a bit of a dislike for AMD's driver control panel software and generally just had better luck with the Nvidia drivers when it comes to games. Is the 7870 significantly better out of the box than the 660? Once again it is fairly unlikely I will be overclocking this. Also thanks, I did not know that about the SSD, I think though with that amount of space it will mostly be for the operating system and heavy applications like mudbox/3dsmax/and photoshop. Write speed shouldnt be the biggest concern for me I dont think? although I suppose it comes in to play with swap files?
There is ARC computers in parramatta you can place an order for all the parts online and just pick it up at whichever store is closest (silverwater, liverpool). MSY main store is in auburn if you want to have better luck at getting all your parts from msy I suggest getting it there if not maybe the one in Ultimo near UTS. Another note for MSY i suggest going there on Thursday or Friday for parts as they restock around then but its before the weekends when people usually go to shop. Another one is probably in capitol's a there is a few good priced (not the one on the ground floor) places there the place there also has a lot of cases that you may not find. There is also Mwave and skycomputer where you basically order online and you can pick up from their pickup place in sydney CBD (usually).
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/548?vs=660 It performs about 10%-15% better in most games, some games such as BF3 favor Nvidia cards a little more but that's really one of the few examples where the difference stands out other than Portal 2. These benchmarks are also done at a cards release so keep in mind there will have been driver updates to improve performance for both cards in a lot of these games.
