I can't see this working well.
What's stopping people from just copying the map and playing it?
Personally don't like the idea of paying for access to community maps on certain servers.

Nothing. It just allows you to play them on an official server, and the money go to the developers of said maps.
Its sort of awesome for the map creators but valve servers are shit, the reg on 64 tick is horrible.
Valve please stop going down the micro-transaction model, or even succumb to COD-style "CONTENT PASS" stuff. :(

Because god forbid they try and reward the content creators in the community.

What's the problem? The content is still available to you. If you buy this pass, money goes to the community developers, and you get to play the maps on officially designated servers as a small catch. Nothing is denied to you.
I appreciate that, but if this is the first step and community approve of it, they may take it further and make it so you have to pay for a pass to play custom content. Now I do doubt that since its Valve but.
If the content is available to everyone I have no problem with this. Plus, steam workshop integration does mean that map makers can launch updates on maps they've already uploaded, right? It was a damn hassle back in CS/CSS when you had to have six slightly modified versions of the same map because servers ran different ones.
I'm still not sure I understand. You are paying for a bundle of community made maps to play them on official servers, but your still not playing them in competitive or anything.

You're paying for access to servers that run a list of community made maps, selected from the Workshop by Valve.
It's not as bad as I thought, they're not restricting you to play certain maps on all servers
It's just "reward map creators and get to play their maps on the Valve servers that usually always run de_dust"

Will there be a "Custom Classic" playlist added in then?
about time the start supporting map creators

You're paying access to the server.
Not the map, just the server.
The money goes to the map designers.
Soon, they will enable vehicle maps in this game

func_vehicle key $3.99
It's a $15 game in the first place. If it's a small one time fee I don't see what the big deal is, especially if this is true:
The money goes to the map designers.
because making maps in source is hard lol
because making maps in source is hard lol
It's very time-consuming, and honestly... Supporting community mappers doesn't seem all that bad of an idea.
because making maps in source is hard lol
because putting paint on a canvas is hard lol
Just because something isn't "hard" doesnt mean people dont have talent at it. The mechanics to map may be simple, but designing something that plays well is a different story.
Maybe this is a great incentive for mappers to stop making shit maps?
Maybe this is a great incentive for mappers to stop making shit maps?
Or an incentive for droves of would-be mappers to push out as many maps as possible, watering down quality in total. Won't know until we start seeing results.
Here's where NeoGAF got their information (for the lazy or for those behind a filter): http://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalOffensive/comments/1ap6u0/csgo_update_for_32013_leak_new_main_menu_ui_and/
