Not surprised, the reaction videos alone would have generated an insane amount of publicity for it, hell I'm still bugging a mate of mine to get around to playing it. Kudos to frictional though, they deserve every penny
1,000,000 sales. Around 200 players.
Well deserved.
Who remembers when Frictional was on the verge of disappearing?
It's getting close to that time of the year anyway.
Wait, only just now. With how... notorious the game is, I'd imagine it was much higher.
I hope they made a fair amount of money from the game, so they can put some really good quality work into Machines for Pigs(is that the title?)

A lot of personality was put into the development of Dark Descent and I can't imagine a separate development studio ever getting anywhere near that level of quality. It's not even about the budget; it's the individuals who created the game that made that level of quality.
I remember when pre-orders for the game had a really small number. From the little tracker on their website they were close to pushing past 2,000 just before release came. I'm really happy and surprised how successful it's become now.
1,000,000 sales. Around 200 players.
More like around 200 players who actually managed to contain their shit long enough to finish the game.

Doesn't help with all the people that own it but never bothered playing through it.
Still have yet to finish this game. It is horrifying.
Still have yet to finish this game. It is horrifying.
I honestly wasn't afraid when I played it, especially as it got closer to the end. I got a little freaked out by the [sp]torture chambers[/sp], though.
I finished this game, good times. Penumbra: Black Plague kinda desensitized me. One of my favorite parts was when Daniel was going mad when torturing a victim. "PAINT THE MAN, CUT THE LINES!"
One of my favorite parts was when Daniel was going mad when torturing a victim. "PAINT THE MAN, CUT THE LINES!"
"Oh I'm innocent, I didn't do anything, mleh mleh mleh..."
I honestly wasn't afraid when I played it, especially as it got closer to the end. I got a little freaked out by the [sp]torture chambers[/sp], though.
My very first time playing it (which was about 30 minutes) was actually terrifying. I posted about it a few months back in an earlier Amnesia thread:
I bought the original Amnesia during the xmas sales in 2010. Tried playing it once with my sisters boyfriend watching because he believed it probably wouldn't be scary. Got to the part with the cellar where you see the monster in the distance which then walks around the corner and dissapears, and my sisters boyfriend let out the most ear-fucking high pitched screech, it was so bad I actually closed the game out of pure fright from his screech. I decided to force myself to play the game during the Portal 2 ARG, I started at about 7PM and finished it with about 30 minutes left before portal 2 released (iirc about 7AM the next day). It was one of the most amazing game experiences ever, I wanted to close the game several times out of fear, but forced myself to push on because I had this general idea that whilst I was playing the game I was contributing to the ARG to release Portal 2. Since then I've been so engrossed in the atmosphere I've played countless custom stories and played around 150 hours in-game.
i couldn't finish, played an hour and a half before i started to freak the fuck out
pc gaming is dead Guys stop buying pc games the market is supposed to be dead.
pc gaming is dead Guys stop buying pc games the market is supposed to be dead.
no silly, razer saved us all a while ago!!
i still can't play it seeing as i'll just exit out every 5 minutes
I honestly think the game is slightly overrated, but they deserve every penny just for the sheer amount of personality and atmosphere that went into making it
These guys truly EARNED that money back; I wonder how much of it goes towards the Machines for Pigs budget? Speaking of Machine for Pigs, I heard it's coming out in the first quarter of 2013.
Still have yet to finish this game. It is horrifying.
There are like 5 scary parts. But it's not really that bad. Yes, I played in the dark with headphones.
All that's left for Frictional now is for them to completely sell out and release Amnesia: Modern Soldier Dubstep Wars and their success story will be complete!
pc gaming is dead Guys stop buying pc games the market is supposed to be dead.
1 million in sales might be a lot for indie, but for big studios it's really not all that much.
