Besides new settings, AC hasn't changed much since the first one. After the first game, the only really interesting thing they've brought in is the ship combat.

I'd say they haven't added much after 2. Because 1 was basically a tech demo, 2 was a vast improvement over 1 IMO
I felt like 2 was a massive improvement from 1st one ( Being able to buy busssiness, customize your stronghold whatever it was called i dont exactly remember.., Paintings, more customization and side missions etc )
The everything that came out after it except for black flag felt EXACTLY the same
Assassins Creed 2 was the best one honestly.
Then they decided to make it a yearly thing, and the quality and changes started drop entirely
All I can say is, Assassins Creed Unity scares me, considering the actual Assassin Gameplay of BlackFlag was the worst part of the game.
I remember when the director was doing a Q/A video for either Brotherhood or Revelations, and one of the questions was: will stealth still be a part of the game?
The director just had a really confused look on his face and said "Yeah, of course. It's Assassin's Creed."
However... That doesn't mean shit. If your games make the fans question if the next will have stealth, that means your games don't have good stealth sections at all. It doesn't matter how you advertise it.
Thinking back, Assassin's Creed 1 made me much more like my assassinations meant something. I was told how powerful these men were, and I had to investigate as to what they do, where they'll be, when they'll be, and how I should approach. It made me feel like I was building up to an assassination, and when I killed them, either stealthily or brashly to make a public opinion, it felt like I made an impact.
The games from there, on, hand you all the info you need to know. "Oh, he's going to be there? Perfect, I'll go kill him now," and you do it. ...That's it. AC2 improved the narrative, giving Ezio clear drive from his one goal to the next, and giving a good reason for him to become an assassin. However, it didn't feel too much like I climbed my way up to it. I just did it. Brotherhood did it a bit worse, honestly. You built up your underground ties to the thieves, the courtesans, and the mercenaries by doing them favors, and then they just hand you the information you need. It felt unsatisfying. Some of the missions were definitely satisfying, like the Banker, and killing him. I felt like I had to be careful, and the mission itself felt a bit built up to.
Anyway, this is going on a big banter on the whole series. Just make the build up to the assassinations mean something, and make me feel the impact I'm having with these assassinations. Include more actual stealth sections, and no, that doesn't mean missions where I follow some guy around until I get to kill him. Give me a level where I have to stalk through the level to reach my target, avoiding enemies, distracting them, and whatnot. Make combat ball-bustingly hard, and no, that doesn't mean "give me 15 enemies at once." I want to feel punished for failing stealth, rather than slightly annoyed that I'm wasting time by killing guards. If I get into a big fight, make it so that my target actually realizes "shit, there's an assassin after me!" and have him either run away where I have to catch him before he gets too far, or he goes into a much harder to reach area. Don't give me missions where I have to chase my target down. If I'm chasing someone, I want it to be because I fucked up and they noticed me, not because the narrative said so.
...I think that might be it. My big banter led into a bigger banter. Sorry for the wall.
I think they're going a good direction with Unity, honestly. Proper co-op and more stealth features.
In the advert for Unity I saw some people execute a few cardinals. Hopefully, Ubisoft will acknowledge that the revolutionaries did this - as well as murdering orphans and other members of the underclass, just because they were cared for by the Catholic Church - instead of saying "no it was really the Templars!" or "it's OK because the Catholics were eeeeevil!" (it's not like they don't have form for Anti-Catholicism). The bizarre depiction of pirates in Black Flag as vanguards of the Enlightenment who just wanted to be themselves makes me worry about the developers.
