I probably need to dedicate a few hours for actually looking for shit like copper or aluminium since when i want to make something neat i just stop after i ran out of my 6 bits of copper when making a defense system.
I do hope that the upcoming DLC expands on base building.
Man i can't wait for modding, the electricity stuffs has really great potential there. If it only had a transistor-like thing right now.

I love to be able to have this computer from which you can control the base. I am talking about putting something in red alert, lowering/raising a bridge or opening doors and such.
Indeed curious about the mods, hopefully it will add protecting robots.

I want an aggression flare to calls raiders or crash test protectrons to test my defences

Flare that starts a event where waves of raiders appear and every round you complete they get tougher. See how long you survive :v:

I've got probably 60 hours in game already and still haven't managed to figure out building things

80 hours here and I just found Nick Valentine.
You know mods are going to throw in things like mineral and oil extractors for a high cost, but will then provide a steady stream of that resource, which will be kind of neat for people who like to build and tear down constantly
Can you populate your settlements in fallout 4?
Can you populate your settlements in fallout 4?
You can build radio towers that broadcast a signal so settlers are attracted to it. Here and there you complete a quest where in the end you can offer someone to live in one of your settlements as well.
Can you populate your settlements in fallout 4?
Yes, Up to 10 + your charisma stat I believe. So 20 Total assuming gear that pumps the stat higher don't count

I'm about 25 hours in and I still have yet to figure out why I would want to start
I'm using my one and only developed settlement to provide me with tons of fresh water and ingredients for Vegetable Starch.
And since its defence rating is through the fucking roof I don't need any NPCs guarding my stuff.

Settlement building is easy xp and eventually vendors are great, when those fuckers actually attend the store.
Also it's fun.
I didn't know there was already an infinite objects in towns mod. I should install it sometime since I've already hit the limit on my main settlement.
I just feel that I should have a higher population that what is allowed, I would like at least 30-40 people, but thankfully mods will remove the silly 10+CharismaLevel cap.
Wiat fuck, you can block up doors?

Honestly, I just want a grid system or and birds eye view.
Its seriously begging for a birds eye view, blows my mind how Bethesda didn't implement it.
How did people manage to even people anything with the horrible snapping.

junk farming
minute men back up
artillery strikes
Right now the 'largest' settlement I have is in Sanctuary and I have a ugly large building set up in the middle of town.
Oh and like 10 other settlements lacking things like defenses that I need to sort out some time soon.

what the fuck are you doing in my house and how did you fit through the door

And the ever so lucrative purified water farming
Caps are a water backed currency, after all :v:
Settlements are so boring and the quest related to them are even more boring. Hopefully mods will remediate this problem.

What I would really like from modding and settlements is to be able to make towns that dont look so ugly.
I want some pre-war looking cabins and houses and such

That'll totally be modded in for sure. Remember Covenant? They had some Pre-war, non instanced homes. I don't see why they couldn't be turned into pre-fabs. There's also the homes from the intro, you know they can be re-purposed to be built on cleared lots in sanctuary.
Hell this will probably happen before the creation kit
Hopefully there will be mods that let you build some of the in-game clutter items, I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to put items already in the game into the buildables list. Hopefully.
