I know it's an unpopular opinion but I still love the Tribes Vengeance singleplayer, replayed it just a few months ago
It doesn't play as the multiplayer, but it's still enjoyable by it's own merits
And i thought that companies re-releasing games on GOG was already fantastic.
Awesome that they are doing this. I played the shit out of the Tribes Vengeance singleplayer demo years ago. Never could get my hands on a physical copy of the game due to living over an hour away from the nearest video game retailer (apart from a Target and it's stash of Sims and kids games pc games) and the games retailers I did visit never had it in stock :(
They are missing the original Starsiege (the mech game, not Starsiege: Tribes) and the RTS spinoffs, CyberStorm.
Vengeance always will hold a place in my heart for trying the hardest to be the most original of the series.
I mean seriously, the heavy tank could retract the spikes in its treads so it could ski, and then have jump-rockets on the back so it could ramp off of the side of mountains. So could the APC/Rover.
It had all the classic weapons and packs and some deployables and even a grapple-hook so you could ski and grapple and fly swing around things at high speed. So much fun.
I really enjoyed Vengeance, but it couldn't hold a candle to Tribes 2. Engineering was basically gone, there were fewer multi-crew vehicles, it was unbalanced (hello chaingun with more range than the sniper rifle) and the publisher dropped all support after like two months. Never got a modding community like T2.

Well to be fair they're not actually Tribes games, Tribes is a spin-off of Starsiege
It's awesome that these are out here now (and I'm quietly dreaming that GoG would pick these up as freeware and tidy them for easier use) but I have my doubts that there's enough community interest (especially on the Siege titles) to get them up to scratch for modern systems. ES2 I know in particular isn't at all friendly, one of those games in that weird era of games that refuses to work on any new system.
I remember when I saw Tribes Vengeance bundled with a magazine, I picked up MechWarrior 4 instead though, I really wish I could've gotten both but this works too :v:
I'm not sure if this is still a thing, but videogame magazines in italy used to be bundled with a game for 1 or 3 euros, I got some great PC games for almost nothing from these.

Ha, that's exactly how I got it, wouldn't surprise me if it was the same magazine (The Game Machine). I very rarely bought magazines too, so I pretty much hit jackpot.
The magazine was from 2006 and T:V came out in 2004, it was a pretty sweet deal

That was the one, I know TrackMania also had a logo from TGM, but I never actually bought it from one of their magazines.

Yeah I played Vengeance back in the day, and I also enjoyed the campaign for what it was. Big pity that they never got the opportunity to release the 1.1 patch that would have given us an ending as opposed to the screeching to a halt we got originally.
Y'know, considering the mech-game origins of Tribes, I would not object to a game where you had big stompy mechs AND Tribes-style jetpack infantry. THAT would probably make for a great game if executed right and had a good amount of content.
Did they mess up the Tribes Vengeance package?

Starsiege: 2845 was supposed to be a mix of Tribes and Starsiege. Cybrids vs Humans with HERC vehicles and infantry combat. It was a fan project and fell apart though. If you look around the internet you can probably find their prerelease demo. I'm pretty sure I have the installer floating around somewhere.
I could swear most of these were freeware already, just that they needed a CD-Key(which became moot when the "official" master servers were shutdown and replaced by community ones). Not trying to seem like a dick or anything, just saying that most of these supposedly were already legally free.

Yeah T2 and T:V seem to be freeware since there are community fix sites

Now if only T:A were to suddenly cease to exist, maybe a human-populated Tribes 2 server wouldn't be in the same leagues as a fucking unicorn

Is Tribes Vengeance the only one in the series with the single player campaign ? (And by that I mean a campaign with story and stuff, not bot matches like in Unreal Tournament games)

You use Tribes Next? Usually there are 2-3 full servers when I get on (no bots)

I think so. I played a bunch of Tribes 2's "campaign" with the BioDerm hordes, but those were more akin to tutorial missions detailing different modes and introducing new mechanics to prepare you for online play.
Well to be fair they're not actually Tribes games, Tribes is a spin-off of Starsiege
It's odd because they have EarthSiege 1 and 2, which are mech games just like StarSiege and they are all set in the same universe, albeit separated by hundreds of years and lightyears from the Tribes spinoff.
Canonically, it goes:
ES1 (earliest) -> ES2 -> Cyberstorm / Starsiege -> Cyberstorm 2 -> Tribes Vengeance -> Starsiege: Tribes / Tribes 2 / Tribes Ascend.

Yeah, the Tribes 2 singleplayer was a glorified tutorial that you could blast through in under two hours. Five or six levels, introducing most of the mechanics used for multiplayer.
They weren't bot matches, though. Bespoke levels for the 'campaign' with unique objectives, special bot behavior, and with a mission control guiding you.
Tribes Vengeance had a full, >6 hour campaign with multiple characters, cutscenes, etc.
I was thinking about picking up a copy of tribes vengeance soon so this is a pleasant surprise

You shitting me? Last time I checked will have been over half a year ago, usually I wouldn't see more than one server with more than 3 players on

I actually did use these installers. ES1 installs ok and runs. Plays kinda laggy though but is still playable. ES2 requires winamp, after that it seems to freeze on a white screen and it's hard to get back to the desktop. Starsiege installer can't finish (technically) since it expects two cds. I'm able to launch the game but it handles like garbage, not at all playable. It could be my laptop, but I'm pretty sure I've had Starsiege working flawlessly on this machine before.
[editline]30th October 2015[/editline]
Reading through the SHP forums, it seems the game is dependent on having the CD audio tracks which evidently ISOs don't preserve, so the ES2 problem would probably be universal. Though I still have original CDs of ES2, Starsiege, and Tribes 1. I could probably make a BIN/CUE pair which SHP suggested to do if we have to install from a digital copy.
The vengeance isos don't appear to work, there's missing package files completely halting installation and that's after it asks you for a CD key that they don't seem to provide. Anyone got ideas?

Wait until someone fixes it, until then i am using the freeware version.
Had the same issue with stadium being missing.
Christmas came early and then some! Love how they threw in Earthsiege and Starsiege as well. You'd think these games would be disregarded because they're not as popular as Tribes and aren't technically part of the "Tribes Series".

Starsiege is included in the Tribes 1 iso.

When i click on any of the downloads, it gives me a warning. Is it just for me or are others being affected.
Awesome! I used to play Aerial Assault on the PS2 at my friend's house all the time
A huge amount of my childhood was spent playing things like Earthsiege 2 back in like '98 when I was 6, it's so cool seeing all this again. I always loved how you could fail some of the missions and still continue on a different campaign path. Also the plasma cannon in that was OP as fuck.
