• What kind of .gif maker does Hardware and Software recommend?

I wish to make a gif of a certain area of a certain timeframe of a video clip. Googling got me only some stupid ones with either "LET ME INSTALL THIS USELESS TOOLBAR FOR YOU" or "ITS FREE BUT ITS A TRIAL ACTUALLY AND YOU CANT DO ANYTHING". So I seek any recommendations for such a magical device that will help me make a gif of my dreams.
Camtasia can turn videos into .gif's, but it's pretty shit, and I'm not sure if their trial still excists.
Jasc Animation Shop 3. Jasc is no longer in business, so it's freeware.

I always use Adobe After Effects. It can import basically any video format and export them as .gif.
GIF Movie Gear
Try Coffee Cup GIF Animator.
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Yup, Corel acquired them a few years ago. PaintShop Pro 9 was the last good Paintshop Pro, because Corel bloated it and included "online activation" crap with PSP X (10)
I use VirtualDub to extract the frames and turn them into an animation with Gimp. Both are completely free. Virtualdub does have some gif exporting capabilities, but it's crappy/broken (at least in the version i use, would have to check the newest version)
Photoshop can do gifs from almost any video format.

I used to use something called Adobe Imageready. It worked pretty well and came with some of the earlier versions of photoshop.
Photoshop can do gifs from almost any video format.
based on what i know, only if quicktime can read it (quicktime can't read shit).
based on what i know, only if quicktime can read it (quicktime can't read shit).
Just use *.* in the "open" name so you can see every file you can then open almost anything.
Virtualdub :buddy:
I used to use something called Adobe Imageready. It worked pretty well and came with some of the earlier versions of photoshop.
It is now integrated with photoshop, you have to enable the window.
It is now integrated with photoshop, you have to enable the window.
Not really, you can't open animated GIF files.
That being said... I used to use something called Adobe Imageready. ImageReady is like a crippled version of Photoshop.
Imageready or MS image composer
