So, I found a 10 gig HDD in this old computer in storage. I took it all apart and it's in good condition. I'm in the process of building my computer right now, so I'm wondering if I can use it to install Windows 7 on it to save space on my main HDD?
Don't even bother. W7 takes more than 10 gigs to install.
And i'm betting its IDE Use it as a portable one
Also chances are it uses IDE, which is outdated and slow

It depends what HD you bought, but assuming you bought a SATA HD, no, you can't.
IDE is the type of wire that acts like a data transfer. Today's HDDs use SATA cables.
