I honestly have a tiny amount, just a LITTLE bit of faith they'll learn their lesson from Unity and not fuck up the launch of this. Because boy did they get a hammering for it.

The game itself is fine, and is honestly the best Assassin's Creed gameplay wise.
Bar the bugs and performance issues, which at least they're working on.

You act as if this wouldn't happen without Kotaku's intervention? It's an annual series, like it or not. There's at least four teams working on a different AC game at any given time. Just because Unity was a fuck up doesn't mean they're going to miss next Holiday's big game.

The graphics are amazing in Unity, and the gameplay (From what everyone else says) is the best yet. With the exception of the performance and technical bugs, Unity is essentially a successful game that sold a lot of copies. Their main performance issue seems to be tied around too many draw calls, as AMD pointed out when Ubisoft started pointing fingers (Which would theoretically be fixed if they thinned out the city population).
It doesn't matter if the game was a hit when you have a reputation for releasing a game that we wonder if there was any testing done before it was finalized. It's called bad PR and it can eventually come to the attention of the shareholders that keep you in business.
Just look at EA or Activision's top sellers. We mock them just as badly for releasing barely tested and often unfinished games, making a fortune and then almost immediately announcing a sequel while we wait for the game to become playable through patches we wouldn't need if they fucking tested their shit.
You also should take into account that it's been in development before Unity came out. Games can't be made in 1 year and they're not done by 1 studio.
This announcement (or leak) doesn't surprise me, as AC comes out every year.
