Why do Bethesda games hate my PC?

Really, they do.

I can't even launch Fallout: New Vegas because it just returns me to the main menu (not the ingame one) every time I click play.

Same happens to me with Skyrim and Oblivion (I have retail Oblivion), except I can run the game just fine, but I have to do it under a 640x480 or 800x600 resolution.

It was working fine before, I did reinstalls, installed new drivers, checked the cache, and all that jazz.

Help?

Try verifying the integrity of the game cache with steam.

Some on Skyrim, none on Fallout New Vegas or Oblivion.

Also, please note that I can't actually get in the GAME.

I see the startup menu fine, the one with "Play", "Data Files", or "Options".

So when I click play the menu goes away and it starts up again, and the game exe doesn't run.
