Right so I recently retired my old rig and have always wanted to run a game server running killing floor and cs, but my dreams are crushed with my shitty dsl .54Mbps upload :(. Any other ideas as to what I could run it for?
amd athlon xp 3200
a7n8x deluxe asus motherboard
2 gb ddr 400
4 80gb hard drives. (2 in raid)
Also got a pentium 4 2.6ghz w/out hyperthreading on another asus board.
Just found another board too with 768mb rambus memory and a pentium 4 1.4ghz

the hdd's IDE or SATA?
[editline]10:12PM[/editline]
eitherway you could use them as storage
IDE...
I thought of that but I just bought a 500gb hard drive for my main computer and have a backup drive..
Sell them.
Web server is always an option, otherwise give them to me.
Can I have the hdds? I'm trying to make something out of the insides, already got 15 :v:
If anyone wants the pentium 4 motherboards maybe I could ship them out for a little money? or steam games or something

I also have an extra 20 or 40gb hard drive i think
Webserver if you don't want to use it for backups. Or connect it wirelessly to the neighbors internet and use it as a proxy server.
With a .54 Mbit upload, you could host a 8 slot CS:S server or a 12 slot CS server with proper rate limiting. CS:S would be a bit harder for those machines with the physics and all.
uhm... people run cs source servers with pentium 3's...

your upload is shit, how are you going to send physics info to clients with .54 upload?
run a cs 1.6
just got an idea, what about a folding rig?
4 Man GMOD Server, Ive got one running on a similar connection, works great.
or you could make an internal media streaming server and stream blu-rays to your xbox 360, I also do that on a spare machine of mine, its sweet!
I give mine to friends and family who just need an extra internet machine. I install Windows 7 Home Basic on them, with 1GB RAM and a 3GHz Pentium 4. Does the job. Flash runs at full speed with Firefox and onboard video just fine.
Turn it all into a fish tank.

How do you expect to do that?

It's Nautsabes, don't question him.
no.. it's macgyver obviously
anything is possible
I have my 1.8 GHz P4 machine running: TightVNC, uTorrent (Web Interface), Abyss Web Server and YawCam. I used Windows 2000 as an operating system since it's rock solid and goes months without having to be restarted, I usually loose power or need to open it up before it needs a restart.
I also have uTorrent download torrents into a folder that's shared, so I can open the web interface, start a torrent and when it's done I can stream or copy it to any computer (Or Xbox running XBMC) on the network.

Best. idea. ever.
Fold mothefucker. Fold.
you arent really gonna get much with a little 1.4GHZ p4, hell even my netbook gets more PPD than my 3GHZ p4 (probably ram thats doing it P4 has 1 GB, netbook has 2 GB)
Sell the parts for cash...
you could use it to idle in tf2

Bloop.
Run Prime95 on it endlessly, just to burn watts and waste clock cycles. :smug:
build a cluster for the hell of it
then folding@home on that cluster (if possible)
I smashed an old mac once
