Right now, I think the Intel stock cooler is doing fine at the stock clock of 2.95 on my i7 870. But pretty soon, I want to overclock it to at least 3.6. I know the stock cooler will NOT do well, so what is a cost effective cooler I can use instead? I have a ThermalTake Element G with a 140mm rear fan and a 200mm top fan as well as a mounting space for two 60mm rear fans, if it helps. Right now it idles at <35 C, and runs at above 80 C full load with Prime95(I refused to let it go further). So yeah, CPU cooler, please. Preferably less than $75, if possible.
Hyper 212+
Hmm, after looking at it, everything agrees, including the price. I'm just supposed to stick the fan on the cooler, right? It doesn't need to be directly connected to the outside air, does it? Because the only 120mm fan mounts are in the front, and that is nowhere near the motherboard.
there's airflow through the case and that's what's important
After looking at it, the Intel cooler has these post things that would go into holes in the motherboard. On this thing, it looks like it's basically going to fall over when it's not perfectly upright(not good, since the motherboard is mounted sideways in the case). Is there some sort of mounting bracket I am not seeing? Forgive my ignorance, my only experience with a CPU cooler is the Intel stock one.
There is the Akasa Freedom Tower which is somewhat better than Hyper 212+ for the same price, but since I can't found any copies of this model anymore in France (after I bought mine), I highly doubt you can find it too [editline]25th October 2010[/editline] There are some reviews, in Bit-Tech for example (other ones are in german) [editline]25th October 2010[/editline] So yes, the Hyper 212+ is the CPU cooler to get
Get the Hyper 212+.
I have had this question for a long time but why is the 212+ so good compared to other CPU coolers?
Because it's the least expensive around here for good performance and the fact you can still remplace the fan by something else much better for +15$/€
Because it's the least expensive around here for good performance and the fact you can still remplace the fan by something else much better for +15$/€
Yeah I was going to buy one but then my friend sold me his zalman 9500 for $25 was that a better deal?
H50 imo, i use to have my hyper 212+ installed.. switched it out for the H50
H70 if you want to overclock alot. [editline]26th October 2010[/editline] or keep a overclocked cpu >35 degrees on idle.
heh h70 If you want to spend 100+ get a full custom watercooling loop
I don't want to go much more than 3.6, no need for a $100+ anything. No need for a $50+ anything. I think I'll just get a hyper 212+.
If you think your CPU cooler is loud, you can still remplace the fan by this thing: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835185091&Tpk=Scythe%20Gentle%20Typhoon%20D1225C12B4AP-14 Not as quieter as Sharkoon Silent Eagle 1000, but able to move a lot of air and without being loud at all
Will my CPU fit/handle that cooler too?
do it
I use a hyper 212+ too. it's cool
Pepper;25683312'][img_thumb]http://overclockingpin.com/final%20gtx280/790isli-triple-tek9-40.jpg[/img_thumb] do it
pls leave
Or get a Noctua DH-D14 :3 Or the Silver Arrow :D
Or get a Noctua DH-D14 :3
+1 It's damn silent and good cooling.
