Not surprising, really. The New 3DS is selling quite well in Japan and Nintendo wants to push the new model as much as they can before they head to the US and Europe. I imported one of the New 3DS' from Australia since Nintendo treats the country as PAL when it comes to regions so it works with European games. IMO, the New 3DS is a big improvement over the older 3DS'.

There is an extra camera with face recognition technology so it can track your face regardless of what angle you hold the 3DS at. I tried angles that might stop the camera from tracking you and it still worked, even at night time it still works in pitch black rooms. I'm playing through entire games with just the 3D effect on because it works so well.
