I wonder how it stacks up to the Xbox One...
I wonder how it stacks up to the Xbox One...
Although the PS4 has slightly better hardware that'd probably cost more directly, more than likely it's the various extra TV stuff, licensing deals for ESPN or other sorts of channels and many other things that jack up the price on the Xbox One. But that's just my uneducated guess here.
15 bucks and a soul of an infant
Damn, souls are cheap these days.
Damn, souls are cheap these days.
Lord Satan need's to pay for the gas bill.
Lord Satan need's to pay for the gas bill.
He still has to pay off Hitlers debt, back from when he took him to hell.
They have to be taking a loss on it. There's no way you can pay the workers to assemble them and pay for all the parts. Unless this website doesn't take into account Sony purchasing the parts wholesale which would leave a lot of wiggle room for the construction of the console.

They have to be only accounting the parts used. There's a lot lot more that goes into consoles. Licensing is also usually counted as part of the price.
Considering you get 8 cores (All be it at 1.6ghz?) 8Gb of RAM and that killer GPU, + the HDD and PSU, + the wires that come with it, + the controller, + that headset ear piece crap, $381 is an amazing price

This is just the cost of the parts, it doesn't take into account licencing, shipping, manufacturing and retail.

I don't think this accounts for nearly all of the costs associated with building and distributing the consoles. While it's not nearly the loss that the PS3s were sold for, I think Sony is still heavily relying on software sales to make up the cost. [editline]19th November 2013[/editline] Whoops I thought I refreshed after reading the article but I guess I didn't :v:
It's common practice to sell consoles at a loss and recoup with first party titles, the article even goes into detail how extreme this was with the PS3.
I think this has to do with the PS4 being made at Foxconn so quality might be compromised for cost (as can be seen with some of the day-one errors and "Playstation wobble"). Also keep in mind currency exchanges, PS4 is going for around $549 in Australia and they'll make a big turn around on that even after shipping costs.
Kinect.
Didn't it turn out that kinects cost a lot less than they sold for or was that something else?
The new Kinect is not sold seperately.
Even though it should be.
Even though it should be.
Debatable, a lot of the new stuff requires it, and some of it is pretty neat. I think they should simply lower the overall price a bit.
