As cool as it is (really fucking cool), FPS games just don't work on touch screens. Which is kind of a shame, but maybe we'll see an improvement on that eventually.
Awesome ! I hope it will be supported by VALVe.
Y'know, this just made me think. What if a bunch of us requested that Valve make GoldSrc open source? Do you think they'd do it?
Id has been doing it since the beginning with Id tech, and the engine has long outlived its commercial usefulness.

I think thats an awesome idea
It's not really a port if they're remaking it on a different engine.
I'd totally play it if I had an Android phone.

There's a web player and a facebook app.

I remember them actually saying something about this, but how they weren't going to do it for some reason, let me see if I can find the article...
EDIT: Ah here it is, its part of an interview with Gabe Newell. He says:
Probably not, any time those engines get released the hacker community seems to get ahead of the game in terms of destroying the community that’s actually trying to play the game. So we’ve tended to steer away from that--- It's certainly an option, we shouldn't say there is anything keeping us from doing it. John has made it really easy for us to release the Gold-Source engine if we want to, but we’re more worried about the history. And to be honest we haven't thought about it and I bet if we sat down and said “So how can do we do this without destroying these existing player communities?" we probably could. We’d just rather continue not talking about Half-Life 2: Episode Three more than not finish open sourcing Gold-Source.
It's not a port - it just uses CSS assets.

I think some people asked previously, apparently there are too many licensing issues as it has a lot of third party code that they aren't allowed to release.

Many people still play 1.6 they can't make it open source. Hacks.
This works on ARM processors, Raspberry Pi maybe?
Just did a bit of research, and apparently quite a while ago some people actually made a re-write of the goldsrc engine that is compatible with all the original content. The only place I could find the code was on moddb, it looks like the project is dead now but the code is all there.

Minecraft works fine on my droid bionic but Duke Nukem 3D is fucking impossible to play, the controls are terrible.
Was playing it last night and it was pretty fun. Unfortunately it isn't GoldSRC so you don't have all those maps but it's a start.
I play this every day.
The good thing about this game is that it works on 3G+ so I can play online most of the time.
It's not really a port if they're remaking it on a different engine.
back in the day most games were not "true" ports when ported to other systems, they were more often than not reworked from the ground up to fit the hardware.
Aaaaw yeah, downloading now and trying this shit out.
Too bad everyone using a phone would get slaughtered by PC/facebook players
While FPSs don't work well on phones, I guess it wouldn't be that bad because your against other people using phones
[editline]21st January 2012[/editline]
Oh it's cross platform, phone players are fucked
I nearly had a heart attack when I thought it said officially, ValvE NEEDS to make mobile games like this.

they're working on a newer version
PC version might be cool for shitty computers.
There's a facebook app of a remake of Counter-Strike made in UNITY?
Can it play with normal PC installations?
[editline]21st January 2012[/editline]
Alright, it can't, since it's a remake. But this is so much fun to play with facebook friends. Best app on FB.
It runs just fine on a Tegra 2 device. Player animations are a tad choppy and there's auto-aim to compensate for the controls, but it's very playable.
PC version might be cool for shitty computers.
How shitty must a PC be to not run 1.6.
Problem with two touch-joystick on a screen, is that sometimes android can't tell which finger is the one that started touching the joystick. Result - Both joysticks pulled together at random times.
Or they could use accelerometer for walking and joystick for aiming, but as Quake 2 has shown us, it's arguably an even bigger pain to control anything that way.
Interesting, i apparently know the guy who's working on this.
