• I need help with my very first build

I have tried to make a build with a GTX 465 in another thread, and I was proven to be wrong in my choice since the 5850 was introduced to me and everything sort of fell apart and everything sort of went over the budget for some reason. Anyway, I want someone to basically build it for me. Budget; $600-800 (w/o monitor, but including OS price of $100 Win7 Builders) I mean I just want a gaming PC that will be able to run all of the games out right now on highest settings, and the GPU to not have to be upgraded for at least 3 years. Not sure if I'm asking too much since this will be my very first build.
You will never get a computer that can run all the new games on highest graphic settings with that budget. :downsbravo:
A 5850 won't run everything? Like what games won't run?
He says that you won't be able to make such a build for that kinda money.. It means that you may get a 5850, but it may aswell be bottlenecked.
Bottlenecked by what? What if I add a hexacore $200 AMD processor to it?

What if I get this combo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.391749 And a 5850? I would be a bit over my budget, but I can look for a good deal on a monitor to even things out. I was going for a 24" $180 Samsung monitor, but I guess a 22" one of a lesser brand wouldn't a big problem. [editline]07:46PM[/editline] Would that run every game out right now? Maybe not on max levels, but at least close to?
Lucky bastard :rage: Looks fine to me..
Lucky bastard :rage: Looks fine to me..
I win? :q: [editline]08:01PM[/editline] Also, does anyone know what the requirements to run Crysis 2? (Not 3D of course) Do you think that the 5850 would run it on a relatively high setting?
That does look like a great deal. Just don't forget you need an optical drive.
Thanks for the reminder. I was going to get a regular old DVD drive for around $20, but I saw a BD one for around $50. Damn technology temptations. Easily drives an $800 build to a $1000 one.

Now I'm wishing I hadn't, It looks beautiful, but I find myself spending 30-35$ on movies far to often.
I already have BluRays playing in my living room on a nice LCD LED through my PS3, so I was going to just put $30 extra to get those BluRays I already own to run on my PC.

the X6's are totally useless for gaming, it has absolutely no performance increase over an X4, and a Core i5 would outperform it in games too.
the X6's are totally useless for gaming, it has absolutely no performance increase over an X4, and a Core i5 would outperform it in games too.
That's what they said about the quads 3 years ago, and now they're the standard and the C2D are barely surviving.
That's what they said about the quads 3 years ago, and now they're the standard and the C2D are barely surviving.
I have to agree with you, in that future-proofing is good... But what milky said also stands, the i5 is much better.
That's what they said about the quads 3 years ago, and now they're the standard and the C2D are barely surviving.
This is hardly true at all. Games aren't even beginning to max out a third thread, much less a fourth. The C2Ds may need a bit of an overclock, but even then, most of the E6xxx series could hit 3.2Ghz on the stock cooler. Would you build a computer now with a C2D in it? Of course not. Source was always a CPU bottlenecked game, but you can play 90% of the newest games maxed out still on a C2D clocked to 3.2 with a 5850. An i5-750 really is the way to go in a gaming build you intend to keep for more than 2 years, especially if you play games built on any of the versions of the source engine.
