See that iPad above, notice anything peculiar? Yeah, blackra1n jailbreak as predicted with the Cydia app installed. No details or downloadables yet but it won't be long. All courtesy of Geohot, natch.

So, it looks like it won't be long until we get a release version of this, its not tethered either, so this is quite the accomplishment.
Awesome!
Wooo! Time to send off a congratulatory email and brush up on the emacs codebase.
If this jailbreak also allows the 8GB 3G iPod touch to be jailbroken untethered, how will this go if it's already jailbroken? Just run blackra1n and it'll take care of it?

blackra1n is a one click jailbreaker. Just close itunes and its services and start the exe and click the huge "Make it ra1n" button.
In short, yes.
That took 1 week. Bravo, Apple.
Why would Apple want to bring the Hammer of Thor down on jailbreaking? It's a big contributing factor to sales.
Because all of sudden you can illegally download App Store applications for free, and they lose money on that :downs:
Yes, but telling people "you've got no chance to pirate" means those who pirate won't be buying iDevices anyway. Apple puts massive margins on hardware in any case.

I agree with this. think about it. I'm pretty sure apple would prefer pirates to buy the device and pirate all apps rather than not buy the device at all.
I hope the jailbreak app for the 3.1.3 gets released as well
You can already jailbreak 3.1.3 iPhones you know? You just can't unlock them (unless they have the super old 5.08 bootloader, I have 5.09 argh!).
I just want to jailbreak my ipod touch. (3.1.3)
I bought it like a few weeks ago, still waiting for that jailbreak to be released.
anyone else buying an ipad as soon as this is released and working for the public?
anyone else buying an ipad as soon as this is released and working for the public?
Nope.
anyone else buying an ipad as soon as this is released and working for the public?
No way. The iPod Touch is plenty for me, thanks.
On a side note, I saw a guy sitting at Starbucks with his brand new iPad on release day. I chuckled to myself.
You're a bit late... MuscleNerd had comex's jailbreak ported to the iPad on the first day after release. Comex's jailbreak is also userland, if you didn't know. You visit a webpage and your iPad/iPod is jailbroken. It's untethered too.

Also, no jailbreaks will be out until after the 3G model is out.
anyone else buying an ipad as soon as this is released and working for the public?
I have the iPad Touch Mini. It's fits in my pocket and can make phone calls. I don't need another one.
I might be getting one because I don't have an iDevice currently in commission.

Hell yes iPad Nano.
Hell yes iPad Nano.
Hell yes iPad nano extra nano mini super shuffle.
That took 1 week. Bravo, Apple.
I wouldn't be surprised if they made it easy on purpose. If jailbreaking didn't exist there's no way they'd have as much sales as they do.
-snip-
I really wish they would make a non-tethered jailbreak for my ipod touch 3rd gen.
It's been done before, by MuscleNerd.
I have the iPad shuffle. It doesn't have a screen.
I have an iPad duo. It's stuck in the dock and the touchpad is bizarre.
iPad mini? so like iPod touch/iPhone?

Identical.

When it's showing off the N64 emulators, and having cydia running, that's a REAL jailbreak. It's not that useful when its just grabbing your system time.
