I was wondering, do you recommend switching a 2003 Dell Computer (which isnt GREAT but it does the trick, and I can play games and shit on it) that has Windows XP OS, switching over to 7? I have the money. Is the change worth it? What's the best part of the change?
EDIT: And does it keep all the information (Like Antivirus, Steam, Essential Programs)
Specs?
Specs as in what? I'm kind of new to Hardware and Software
Specs as in specifications, what is the hardware inside your computer?
Specs = Computer shit as in Processor, video card, sound card, etc...
Just download http://www.piriform.com/speccy
Then take a screen shot and post it.

You may have a bit of trouble with running the OS stable on 512 mb of ram, and that graphics card will not support Windows Aero [Fancy blurry transparent effect]
I honestly would not recommend it on that computer.
I don't think that you can run Windows 7.
I mean, it'll work, but I don't think that it will run very well. I'm not sure, but you'll want to buy a new one. Put the money aside and save about $500 then post a thread in the PC building section and we'll give you a list for a nice, fast computer.
How would I go getting more RAM and I could possibly get a new graphics card.
If you want to upgrade instead, go for this:

Basically, in the long-run, this will make my computer faster? ._.
Not hugely. But you'll be able to run Windows 7 without Aero.
I think it would be a better decision to take care of your friend Dan (He was boobies)
But windows 7 has been much better than XP for me because it never had a full on crash, windows glide across the desktop much easier too, I actually think it has the same speed.
windows 7 will run on 512mb ram, just kinda slowly

make sure you got page file
If I switch over to 7, I'll be deleting some programs, which take up some ram
I wouldn't bother with upgrading the OS on that thing. I have an older P4 computer with 2Gigs of DDR and a 256MB Nvidia 7800 and windows 7 still chugs on it. If you want the pretty interface go for it and deal with the slowdowns. I would recommend sticking with XP on that machine and saving the money to get a new rig.
I suggest just keeping on XP with that PC (Or get a new PC).
May run fine on Windows 7 starter.
Seeing your specs, you will never be able to use Windows 7 on that computer. Sorry dude, you need a new one. Another thing, It is not possible to UPGRADE from XP to Seven meaning all your stuff can stay while not being backed up somewhere. So you'd have to burn it onto DVDs, online storage sites, or an external hard drive then reformat and install Windows 7.

unless it's background programs of sorts, the amount of stuff on your hdd, will not affect how fast your computer overall, is.

My mom's kitchen PC is better than that. :v:
Anyways, stay with XP on this pc but you could try to run Win 7 starter.
But try to upgrade.
Don't bother. Save your money for a brand new PC tbh
Just keep XP if it works, it doesn't really matter at all.

And if you want to get some kinda Windows 7 looking dock try this.

Don't upgrade, you'll have a really hard time running Windows 7. I suggest you just save up and buy a new computer, or even buy the parts and build the computer yourself.
