I was working away at college today on the computer, but didn't have time to save my stuff onto both my portable hard drive and the computers there because of the next class needing the room, so I went to try and backup my work in the library and no computer would recognise the hard drive. I've had problems like this before, generally changing the usb port a couple of times solved it, however now I'm home and it isn't working on either of the computers here...
Anyone know of any solutions? it's a Freecom Mobile Drive Classic II (250GB)
Try another cable? Or try all USB ports you have?
For my friend it helped, he has kinda same external HDD.
Tried another cable, and all 5 usb ports on my pc, 2 on the family pc and 3 ports on 3 computers at college, so I don't think that's the problem, thanks anyway
1) Check device manager and see if the device has any errors.
2)Start>Run>compmgmt.msc see if the drive is being assigned a drive letter under Disk Management.
3)Once you're able to see the device possibly it needs some type of software on it to be recognized by other computers.
Running a google search came up with a high failure rate for this drive.
1) Device isn't showing up in the device manager
2) All that the disk management shows is the C: drive, the dvd in the D: drive and 2 partitions which my brother has linux installed on
And I checked too, sucks really, going to have to look into a new hard drive, whether or not I fix this one
