My computer has recently become infected and I'm forced to re-install my OS (windows vista). I bought my computer pre-built online, so it came with Vista already installed.
So I downloaded a Vista Recovery cd and now I'm trying to re-install, but it's asking me for an activation code. I don't have one naturally since I didn't purchase Vista on it's own it came on my comptuer.
What do I do? Is there an activation code stored somewhere on my computer? Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance
Check the case of your PC. My product key was on the top of my Dell tower.
The manufacturer should have sent you a branded Vista disc. An ordinary disc won't accept your pre-built's activation code.
There's a white sticker on top of my tower with a 17-digit code on it. I don't think that's it though.
Also I got the computer a year and a half ago and I can't find a Vista cd anywhere, I always keep this stuff too.
There's a product sticker on your computer case. If you're on your laptop then it's on the back of the laptop (when I mean back I mean below where your batteries are placed)

I'm not on laptop. Check my above post, do you think that's it?
