• Windows 10 black screen with cursor after logging in

Everything was working fine last night when I turned my computer off and went to bed. This morning I woke up and tried to log in and I just have a black screen with a cursor after entering my password. I can open task manager but nothing else, it seems. I've tried booting in safe mode but it still has the same issue. Just finished doing a reset and still isn't fixed. I really don't want to lose my files so if reinstalling windows is my only option, is there any way I can get them off my hard drive first?
If you have access to another PC, download a linux distribution such as Mint and put it on a flashdrive using a program such as Universal Usb Installer: http://www.pendrivelinux.com/downloads/Universal-USB-Installer/Universal-USB-Installer-1.9.6.3.exe then boot from said drive [editline]2nd February 2016[/editline] Just found something you can try:
I solved it by disabling fast startup. To do this, go to control panel -> power options -> click on "choose what the power button does" (located in the left pane) -> click on change settings that are currently unavailable" -> unmark the checkbox "turn on fast startup" If you are currently in the black screen with the pointer, you don't need to reinstall the OS, because the keyboard inputs work. You can run cmd by pressing Windows key + R, type cmd, press enter. Wait a couple of second and run the command shutdown -r
some older motherboards seem to have some problems with how W8 and W10's "not quite turned off" feature was implemented
That didn't work either :( After trying all day I finally gave up and am now reinstalling windows. I was at least able to get all of my files onto an external HD by using task manager > new task > browse. The issue seems to have something to do with explorer.exe not starting up, and it would crash when trying to manually start it. Thanks though!
