Now let me start by saying. Im not the best when it comes to computers. i know the basics but that is about it.
I got global agenda the other day, and as soon as i start the game, talk talk secrurity comes up telling me my firewall has blocked access to the web server, pictured below

now my dad, who is okay at computers, says that he doesn't want to allow the port being open because of a potential trojan attack, and sais he wouldnt open it unless he could get prove it was safe to open it.
So why does it need these ports opening and is it save to open them.
Click allow, it's fine.
erm thanks, but my dad aint just gonna go for that.
He says i need prove.
Why would Valve risk its reputation selling games with spyware/trojans in it? Your dad is misinformed, as are most parents who think they know about computing, yet are completely in the dark.
Show your dad the steam policy thingie
I think he realises that you cant get it from the game, just with the port open it allows access when im out of the game.
I'm pretty sure it only opens the port for the game, and closes it after - which is why it saysbthe application name.

Ill read up on that. if that is true he should allow it.
Just slap your dad and tell him that he can tell you that when he's took a course on computing.
:h: Reece.

Wish i could prunester, but that would just make things worse
I'm pretty sure it doesn't open any port at all, you'd need to login to your router to do that. All this does is block the app from connecting to the internet, like all firewalls.

Well, it does open the port, but only for this specific application, it's not even like, that it's open for any other program, only this application can use this port when this application has been given the rights to.
